Quick answer
What do Idaho process servers charge by county?
Delator Field Services publishes a Routine starting rate for every Idaho county, from $125 in Ada, Canyon, Bonneville, Bannock, Kootenai, Nez Perce and Twin Falls counties to $235 in Custer and Lemhi. Faster levels are priced at 1.5, 2 and 3 times that Routine figure. The statewide Idaho process serving page explains how each serve is documented.
01How rates are set
How We Arrive at a Starting Rate for Each Idaho County
Two inputs drive every county figure: how many people live there and how far the county sits from the nearest metro area a server works out of. The seven counties built around Boise, Nampa, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Coeur d'Alene, Lewiston and Twin Falls all start at $125 for Routine service. Boise and Ada County process serving is the reference point most firms check first, and the finder above opens there.
Counties a short drive from those hubs rise in small steps. Jefferson and Jerome start at $130, Bingham, Latah and Madison at $135, and Gem and Owyhee at $140. A few counties are measured from a metro across the state line because that is the closer base: Franklin, Oneida and Bear Lake from Logan, Utah, and Lemhi from Missoula, Montana. Bingham County service around Blackfoot and Latah County serves near Moscow show how near-metro counties are handled.
02Service levels
Routine, Urgent, Rush and Same Day Rush in Plain Terms
Routine is the normal pace and the published figure for each county. Urgent is 1.5 times Routine and moves the first attempt forward, Rush is twice Routine and puts the file at the front of the queue, and Same Day Rush is three times Routine for papers that must go out the day they arrive. In a $125 county those levels work out to $188, $250 and $375, and Meridian service off the I-84 corridor uses exactly that ladder.
Choosing a level is really a question about the deadline. Idaho unlawful detainer summonses must generally be served at least five days before a trial set within 12 days of filing, so landlords often need Urgent or Rush. A summons with months left on the 182-day service window rarely does. Counsel juggling several deadlines can lean on our support for Idaho law firms, and we will say plainly when a faster level would not change the result.

- Urgent: 1.5 times Routine
- Rush: 2 times Routine
- Same Day Rush: 3 times Routine, when roads and distance allow
03Distance and weather
Why Idaho Geography Shows Up in the Price
Idaho is long and mountain-split. Boise to Coeur d'Alene is roughly 380 to 390 miles, most of it on US 95, and the nine northern counties keep Pacific Time while the south uses Mountain Time. That is why Boundary County starts at $190, Valley at $195 and Adams at $210, and why Custer, a 115-mile run from Idaho Falls, starts at $235. Coeur d'Alene process service anchors the Panhandle side of the map.
Winter widens those gaps. Lookout Pass, Fourth of July Summit and White Bird Hill can slow or stop travel, and a server may need a second day to reach a ranch road in Camas or Butte County. We check conditions before quoting Same Day Rush in remote counties and say so if the timing is not realistic. When the address itself is the problem, skip tracing in Idaho confirms where the person lives before anyone burns a long drive.
04What the rate covers
What Every Published Idaho Rate Includes
Each published figure covers a standard serve at one address: review of the papers, scheduling, attempts at varied hours, a log entry for every visit and a signed affidavit that meets I.R.C.P. 4(g)(1) by stating the server's age, the documents and the manner, date and place of service. The price is a published starting rate, not a promise for every file. The guide to serving legal papers in Idaho explains the methods the affidavit describes.
Some files cost more, and we say so before work begins. Additional addresses, a defendant who must be located first, a business with a missing registered agent or a gated property that needs coordination can change the figure, and so can a business partner background check when counsel needs to know who really runs the entity being served. Anything that changes the price goes into the written quote before the first attempt. When a locate turns into a real search, evasive person skip tracing is quoted separately at the investigative rate.
05Special service rules
Evictions, Small Claims and Publication Under Idaho Rules
Idaho Code 6-310 generally sets nonpayment and similar eviction cases for trial within 12 days of filing and requires service of the summons, complaint and trial notice at least five days before trial. The statute does not authorize posting, so the summons is served as in other civil actions. That compressed calendar is why eviction files often move at Urgent pricing, and Nampa landlord service in Canyon County handles a large share of them.
Small claims papers can go two ways under Idaho Code 1-2304: personal service, or court mailing by certified or registered mail at the plaintiff's request. Personal service costs are added to any judgment. When a defendant truly cannot be found, Idaho Code 5-508 allows publication and 5-509 sets four consecutive weekly notices, and our attempt log supports counsel's affidavit. A missing person skip trace usually comes first.
06Special situations
Tribal Land, Federal Cases and Military Installations
Reservation land needs its own plan. Tribal law and tribal court rules may control service there, and the answer can turn on who the parties are, the status of the land and the type of claim. Idaho has five federally recognized tribes, and the Idaho courts advise contacting each tribal jurisdiction directly, so we price those files only after counsel, and the tribal court where needed, confirm the method. Pocatello serves near Fort Hall are one place this comes up.
Federal summonses follow Federal Rule 4 but cost the same as state papers at our published rates. The U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho has clerk's offices in Boise, Coeur d'Alene and Pocatello. Mountain Home Air Force Base is treated as a separate jurisdiction for service, so we coordinate before any attempt there, and Elmore County process service covers the base area and Glenns Ferry, while Blaine County resort-town serves run up SH 75.
07Ordering
How to Order an Idaho Serve at a Published Rate
Find the county in the finder or the full table, then send the filed papers with every address you have, a description or photo of the defendant, work hours if known and the deadline that matters. Tell us which service level you want. We confirm the county, check for anything that changes the price and send the final figure in writing, and nothing happens in the field until you approve it. Idaho Falls process service follows the same order flow.
Firms with recurring Idaho work can set up a standing arrangement so every new file starts from the published rate without a fresh negotiation each time. Out-of-state counsel serving defendants in several states can compare figures on the multi-state process serving rate map, and anyone curious about the investigative side of pricing can read what a private investigator costs in Idaho before ordering.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why do process server rates in Idaho vary by county?
Each county's starting rate reflects its population and its distance from the nearest metro base a server works from. Seven metro counties start at $125 for Routine service, and Custer and Lemhi counties start at $235. Every published figure is a starting rate, and the final price is confirmed in writing before the first attempt.
Is the published rate the final price?
Not always. It is a published starting rate. The final figure depends on the exact address, the service level, the number of defendants and whether a locate is needed first. We review those details and confirm the price in writing, and if nothing changes it, the published figure is what you pay. Rexburg process service is a typical example.
How are Urgent, Rush and Same Day Rush priced?
Each one is a multiple of the county's Routine figure: one and a half times for Urgent, double for Rush and triple for Same Day Rush. In a $125 county that means $188, $250 and $375. Same Day Rush is offered only when distance, daylight and road conditions make same-day service realistic, which is not always true in remote mountain counties in winter.
Why is Franklin County priced from Utah?
Our rate method measures each county from the nearest metro area a server works out of, and for Franklin, Oneida and Bear Lake counties that is Logan, Utah. Lemhi County is measured from Missoula, Montana. The Idaho courts and rules still govern service, and the Chubbuck investigators page covers related southeast Idaho locates near Chubbuck.
Do you charge more for North Idaho counties?
Only where the published table does. Kootenai County starts at $125, Benewah and Bonner at $150, Shoshone at $155 and Boundary at $190. North Idaho runs on Pacific Time, and we quote those appointments with the time zone written in. Our Bonner County process server page covers Sandpoint, Priest River and the towns around Lake Pend Oreille.
Are there extra charges for a second address?
A second address in the same county is usually quoted as an add-on, and an address in a different county is priced at that county's rate. We list every address and its figure in the written quote, so there are no surprises on the invoice. If an address turns out to be stale, we stop and ask before starting a locate.
Does a faster level guarantee service by a date?
No. A faster level moves the first attempt forward and gives the file priority, but no server can force a person to be home or answer the door. We log every attempt so counsel can show diligence, and when a defendant is evading service, hit-and-run and evasive driver locates use the same investigative methods to find them.
Do these rates apply to federal court papers?
Yes. A summons from the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho is priced at the same published county rate as a state court summons. Federal papers follow Federal Rule 4 rather than I.R.C.P. 4, and the affidavit is drafted for filing in Boise, Coeur d'Alene or Pocatello as the case requires.
Can I see rates for other states?
Yes. The multi-state rate map covers every state where Delator Field Services publishes county rates. Idaho uses the same structure as those states: a Routine starting rate for each county based on population and distance, plus set multiples for Urgent, Rush and Same Day Rush, always confirmed in writing before work begins.
Who carries out serves in remote Idaho counties?
Outside Tennessee, serves may be carried out by vetted servers Delator contracts with, all held to the same written documentation standard: logged, time-stamped attempts and a signed affidavit. Delator Group is a licensed Tennessee private investigation firm and applies that standard in all 44 Idaho counties, including the long drives in Custer, Lemhi and Clark.
