Quick answer
What do corporate investigations in Idaho cover?
They cover internal questions an employer needs answered with evidence: employee theft, expense and payroll fraud, harassment and discrimination complaints, vendor kickbacks, leaks of confidential information and misconduct by managers. Delator interviews witnesses, reviews records and observes lawfully, then reports to management or counsel. Every scope and price is written first, and our Idaho investigation pricing is published.
01Idaho's economy
Corporate Investigations Shaped by Idaho's Economy
Idaho's business base is changing fast. Micron is headquartered in Boise, and local reporting in February 2026 described its plan to invest about $50 billion in two memory fabs in Southeast Boise, with the first fab expected to finish construction in 2026 and the company estimating some 17,000 Idaho jobs, including 3,500 direct hires. Projects on that scale pull in contractors, suppliers and new hires quickly, and rapid hiring is where background gaps, vendor conflicts and theft of tools and materials tend to appear.
Eastern Idaho has its own anchor. The Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls reports more than 5,500 employees and close to 8,000 people working on its 890-square-mile desert Site when other contractors are counted. Agriculture remains huge statewide, with about $11.79 billion in 2024 cash receipts across roughly 22,400 farms and ranches, and food processing follows it; Chobani's Twin Falls yogurt plant was reported as the world's largest when it opened in 2012. Our Idaho Falls corporate coverage handles the INL corridor's contractor base.
Each of these sectors creates distinct problems. Technology suppliers worry about leaked designs and customer lists, food processors and dairies about inventory shrink and payroll fraud, and contractors about equipment theft and billing disputes. Corporate investigations in Idaho have to fit those realities, which is why we ask at intake how the company is organized, who has access to what, and which records already exist. The Magic Valley processing belt is served through our Twin Falls corporate investigators.

- Research contractors along the INL corridor

02Internal losses
Employee Theft, Fraud and Misconduct Inquiries
Most internal investigations start with a number that does not reconcile: a cash drawer short, inventory that never arrived at the customer, overtime that no supervisor approved. Our Idaho employee theft investigations identify who had access, compare records against schedules and video, interview staff in a planned order and document admissions accurately. Under Idaho Code § 18-2407 theft of property worth more than $1,000 is grand theft, so the total and the way it is aggregated can shape whether a referral to police makes sense.
When losses come from a site rather than an identified employee, the approach shifts to patterns. Construction yards, warehouses and processing plants often lose tools and product during particular shifts or through particular gates, and our workplace theft investigations map those patterns before narrowing to people. Identity misuse inside a company, such as an employee using a customer's personal information to obtain credit, may also fall under Idaho Code § 18-3126, which covers misappropriating personal identifying information.
Timing matters for civil recovery. Idaho Code § 5-218 generally gives three years for fraud claims, running from discovery of the facts, while written contract claims generally have five years under § 5-216. Counsel should confirm which periods apply, but an investigation that records when the company first learned of a problem helps protect those deadlines. Where misconduct reaches officers or managers, our corporate malfeasance investigations report directly to the board or its counsel rather than to the people involved.
03Third parties
Vendor Kickbacks, Partner Disputes and Collusion
Fast-growing regions attract new vendors, and new vendors are where purchasing fraud hides. A buyer who steers work to a company owned by a relative, a supplier that pays for a manager's travel, or two bidders who take turns winning are all common patterns. Our corporate collusion investigations compare bid histories, ownership records, addresses and phone numbers, then interview the people involved. Findings are presented with the documents behind them so management can decide on contract, employment or legal action.
Partner and investor disputes need a different tone. Before signing an operating agreement or accepting capital, a business partner background check reviews prior companies, judgments, liens and lawsuits, and a deeper report can trace how earlier ventures ended. Once a dispute has started, the work turns to documenting what each partner did with company assets and information, and it is coordinated with counsel because the findings may become evidence in district court.
Leaks of confidential information sit between internal and external work. When pricing, designs or customer lists appear at a competitor, our corporate espionage investigations identify who had access, how files moved and whether a departing employee or a vendor is involved. We do not hack accounts, pose as anyone or access systems without authorization. Technical forensics, when needed, is handled by a specialist the company or its counsel retains, and we coordinate with them.
04Workplace complaints
Workplace Complaints Under Idaho Employment Law
The Idaho Human Rights Act, Idaho Code § 67-5909, prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age and disability, and it generally applies to employers with five or more employees. A complaint must generally be filed with the Idaho Human Rights Commission within one year under § 67-5907, and the Commission also handles charges deferred to it by the federal EEOC. Sexual harassment is generally treated as sex discrimination under the Act and Title VII, which is why our workplace harassment investigations are neutral from the first interview.
Idaho has no at-will statute, but its courts presume employment without a fixed term is at will, with recognized exceptions for implied contracts created by handbooks or promises, the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, and terminations that violate public policy. Those exceptions are fact-driven, so an employer weighing a termination, or an employee claiming one was wrongful, benefits from a documented record. Our wrongful termination fact-finding collects handbooks, emails, schedules and witness accounts in order.
A good workplace investigation follows a plan: secure the relevant records, interview the complainant, witnesses and the accused in a sensible order, give the accused a fair chance to respond, and write findings that separate what was established from what was not. We do not tell the employer what to decide. We give management or counsel a report that a commission investigator, a judge or a jury could read and recognize as fair. Employers can pair this with our Idaho employee background checks for future hires.
05Claims
Workers' Comp and Insurance Fraud for Idaho Employers
Self-insured employers and those working closely with their surety have a direct interest in claim integrity. Idaho Code § 72-801 makes a knowingly false statement to obtain workers' compensation a misdemeanor and forfeits compensation, and § 41-293 lists the same conduct, along with employer misrepresentation of payroll or headcount, as felony insurance fraud punishable by up to 15 years and $15,000 with mandatory restitution. The Idaho Department of Insurance's Fraud Investigation Unit accepts reports through its fraud hotline at 1-866-939-7226.
Our role is to establish facts fairly. We confirm a claimant's residence and employment, run workers' compensation surveillance in Idaho when activity is genuinely in question, and canvass witnesses to the injury. Just as often the work clears a claimant, and the report says so. Because § 41-293 also reaches employers, companies should expect any investigation into a claim to be balanced and should never ask an investigator to shade findings. Larger claim programs use our Idaho insurance investigations for liability and property claims as well.
06Prevention
Audits, Due Diligence and Risk Reviews
Prevention costs less than recovery. Our shock audits in Idaho start at $1,200 and test whether a site's procedures work when nobody expects a check: visitor logs, key control, cash handling, after-hours access and alarm response. A fraud risk audit maps where money and inventory can leave the business, from purchasing to payroll, and tests the controls meant to stop it. Findings are ranked by likelihood, consequence and cost, so the company can fix the most important gaps first.
Deals and properties carry hidden risk. A due diligence report on a company, vendor or acquisition target costs $300 as remote work and reviews ownership, litigation, liens and reputation, while larger transactions get a scoped acquisition risk review with interviews and field checks. In fast-growing counties such as Canyon, where the 2025 Census estimate showed about 19 percent growth since 2020, real estate buyers also ask us to research sellers, recorded disputes and neighbors before closing.
Idaho's geography belongs in any risk review. Remote sites, long emergency response distances, winter road closures on mountain routes and the split between Pacific and Mountain time all affect how an incident would unfold. Our emergency preparedness audit reviews evacuation, communication and continuity plans with those realities in mind, and it can be combined with a security walk-through in one written scope and one visit.
07Reporting
Confidential Reporting, Legal Limits and Next Steps
Corporate reports are written for the person who must act on them, usually an owner, a board committee or outside counsel. When counsel retains us, the report is prepared at counsel's direction so privilege questions can be managed. Each finding is tied to a document, an interview or an observation, opinions are labeled as opinions, and gaps are stated. If the matter becomes public, our malfeasance press release services help the company say only what the evidence supports.
We work within Idaho law and our own rules. Interviews are voluntary, investigators identify themselves truthfully, and recordings are made only with the knowledge of the person being interviewed, even though Idaho Code § 18-6702 is generally a one-party consent statute. We do not obtain bank, phone or medical records without legal authority, and we do not pretext. Idaho issues no statewide PI license, and Delator, a licensed Tennessee firm, applies Tennessee's standard here; our Idaho PI vetting checklist explains why that matters.
Corporate investigations in Idaho are priced at $100 per hour for field work, with set prices for remote items and minimums for audits, asset searches and scams. Public records requests take longer for out-of-state requesters, up to 21 days for an initial answer, so timelines that depend on agency records are stated honestly in the quote. Companies with operations across the region can compare our South Dakota investigation coverage, and any company can request a confidential consultation to begin.

How it works
How an Idaho Corporate Engagement Works
- 01
Confidential intake
An owner, executive or counsel describes the problem, who knows about it and what records exist. We advise on preserving evidence and on who should not be told yet.
- 02
Written scope
The scope lists interviews, records review, any surveillance or audit work, estimated hours, case minimums and the total. Nothing starts until the company approves it.
- 03
Investigation
Investigators review records first, then interview in a planned order and observe lawfully where useful, reporting progress to the designated contact only.
- 04
Findings and options
Leadership reviews the findings, and the company receives a sourced report separating established facts from open questions, ready for counsel, the board or police.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
When should an Idaho company bring in an outside investigator?
When the facts are disputed, when a manager or owner may be involved, when the result may be challenged before the Idaho Human Rights Commission or in court, or when nobody inside has the time or neutrality to do it well. An outside investigator also helps when the company needs to act quickly but cannot afford to get the facts wrong.
How much do corporate investigations cost in Idaho?
Field work is $100 per hour, remote due diligence reports are $300, audits start at $1,200 and asset investigations carry a $1,000 minimum. Most internal matters are scoped by the number of interviews, the sites involved and the volume of records to review. The written quote states the total before any work starts, and changes require new approval.
Can you interview our employees in Idaho?
Yes, with the company's authorization. Interviews are voluntary, the investigator explains their role truthfully, and employees are told what the company has authorized. Many employers require cooperation as a condition of employment, but that is a policy question for management and counsel. We follow whatever ground rules counsel sets, and our Idaho attorney support team can coordinate directly with your employment lawyer.
Will an investigation report be privileged?
Privilege depends on how the engagement is structured and on Idaho and federal law, so counsel should decide. When an attorney retains us to help give legal advice, we work at counsel's direction and mark reports accordingly. When a company retains us directly for a business purpose, the report may be discoverable. We discuss the structure at intake.
Do you investigate harassment complaints for small Idaho employers?
Yes. The Idaho Human Rights Act generally applies to employers with five or more employees, so even small companies face exposure. We scale the work to the complaint, sometimes only a handful of interviews, and price it in writing. A clear, fair investigation is often the best protection for a small employer and for the employee who complained.
Can you find out whether a former employee took our customer list?
Often, yes. We look at who had access, what was downloaded or printed, when the employee left, whom they contacted and where customers went afterward, and we interview colleagues. Device forensics is handled by a specialist if needed. Our Idaho asset investigations can also trace a new business the former employee started.
Do you report employee theft to the police?
That decision belongs to the company. We document the loss and the evidence in a form police and prosecutors can use, and we can meet with law enforcement if the company chooses to refer the matter. Some employers prefer civil recovery or a negotiated repayment, and counsel should advise on the options and their consequences.
Can you investigate a vendor outside Idaho?
Yes. Records research on an out-of-state vendor is done remotely, and field work in neighboring states can be added to the same scope. Delator works in several other states, and for vendors based in the Mountain West our Wyoming investigations team can confirm addresses, facilities and day-to-day operations on the ground.
Is Delator Group licensed for corporate investigations in Idaho?
No state agency in Idaho licenses private investigators. Delator Group is a licensed Tennessee private investigation firm and holds itself to Tennessee's standard everywhere it works. Some Idaho cities, such as Chubbuck and Coeur d'Alene, regulate investigators locally, and we confirm those requirements before working inside them. Learn about Delator's leadership.
What happens after the corporate investigation is finished?
You receive a reviewed written report, the supporting documents and a briefing with leadership on what the findings support. Depending on the outcome, the next step may be discipline, a policy change, a civil claim, a police referral or no action at all. If controls failed, a follow-up Idaho risk audit can test the fixes.
