Quick answer
How do I hire a process server in Laurel County, Kentucky?
Send the issued papers, every London or Corbin address you have, and your deadline. We confirm with the issuing clerk how the summons was issued and whether private delivery fits, put the tier and price in writing, assign a server and return a signed record. The published Routine starting rate is $150, and the Kentucky county pricing tool compares neighboring counties.
01Local service landscape
An Interstate County at the Edge of the Mountains
Laurel County had an estimated 63,746 residents in 2025. London is the county seat and largest city, and Corbin is shared with Whitley and Knox counties, so a Corbin address may belong to any of three courts. Outside the two cities, homes spread across ridges and valleys toward Laurel River Lake, part of Lake Cumberland and the Daniel Boone National Forest. Our Kentucky process server coverage applies one written standard to every one of them.
Interstate 75 runs through London on its way between Tennessee and Lexington, and much of the county's commerce clusters near the exits. Off the interstate, roads narrow quickly, cell coverage can be uneven and house numbers are sometimes missing. We review each address before the first attempt and confirm the county for anything near Corbin. Defendants who moved west toward the lake are handled by our Pulaski County servers, and our Kentucky published rate list shows every county's figure.

02Attorneys and law firms
A Courthouse Town for Both State and Federal Practice
London draws lawyers for two reasons: the Laurel Circuit and District courts, and the Eastern District's Southern Division courthouse a short walk down South Main Street. Files reaching the county include vehicle and trucking claims from the interstate, contract and collection suits, medical and injury cases, property disputes and family law. Our Kentucky law office service program gives counsel one contact for the quote, the attempt log and the completed return.
Before we accept a file we look at the details that cause delay: a Corbin address on the wrong side of a county line, a company whose registered agent is in Louisville, or a defendant who works out of state for weeks at a time. In state court, a served defendant generally has 20 days to answer under CR 12.01. Firms filing in several states can compare figures on our multistate pricing overview, and self-represented parties can begin with small claims papers in Kentucky.
03Evasive and hard-to-serve
Remote Roads, Long Hauls and Defendants Who Will Not Answer
With an interstate running through the county seat, some defendants drive or travel for work, and a person may be on the road for days at a stretch. Rural homes can sit at the end of unmarked lanes where a stranger's car is noticed early. We time attempts for when people are realistically home, including evenings and weekends where counsel approves, and Kentucky's KRS 454.135 permits civil service on Sundays and holidays. Our approach to evasive Kentucky defendants explains more, and priority service tiers cover short deadlines.
Because a Kentucky summons cannot be left with a household member, the log has to show genuine efforts to reach the defendant. If counsel concludes the person is concealing themselves or left the county to avoid service, CR 4.05 allows the clerk to issue a warning order on an affidavit, and CR 4.09 still permits personal service any time before judgment if the defendant turns up. Our guide to Kentucky warning orders lays out the steps.
04Family law, evictions, small claims, subpoenas
Family Cases, Rentals, Small Claims and Witness Papers in London
Divorce and custody filings go to the Laurel County Family Court division at the Judicial Center. The other spouse may receive the papers in person or by the clerk's certified mail, or may simply file a waiver of service and entry of appearance. In cases with minor children, Kentucky generally does not take final testimony until 60 days after service or appearance. Parents can follow the general sequence in our Kentucky dissolution service guide.
For rental housing, KRS 383.210 directs the forcible detainer warrant to the sheriff or any constable, who gives at least three days' notice of trial, so we do not serve that notice or carry out warrants of restitution. Outside areas that adopted the landlord-tenant act, KRS 383.195 generally ends a tenancy at will on one month's written notice, which we can deliver where the lease allows. Small claims up to $2,500 go by the clerk's certified mail or the sheriff. Our Kentucky subpoena delivery page covers witnesses.
- Family Court papers for London and Corbin
- Written notices to vacate where the lease allows delivery
- Separate suits for unpaid rent or property damage
- State subpoenas under CR 45.03 for local and statewide hearings
05Documentation and challenges
An Attempt Log Written for the Courtroom
When the clerk transfers a summons for delivery under CR 4.01(1)(b), the server's endorsed return becomes the proof of service. CR 4.03 asks for that proof to be filed promptly and within the time the defendant has to respond. We send the completed return quickly so your office can file it at 305 South Main Street, and for federal matters we match the proof format to Rule 4, as our page on papers from other courts and states describes.
The record is built from notes taken at each visit: arrival time, the condition of the property, who came to the door, and whether the papers were handed over or offered on refusal under CR 4.04(2). Where a road has no posted address, the notes say how the server identified the house. If a defendant later disputes service, that is the record your attorney uses. Concerns about a particular serve can go through our contact page, and Delator Group's background explains who stands behind it.
06Kentucky service rules
The Kentucky Rules That Govern a Laurel County Serve
CR 4.01 has the clerk issue the summons on filing and, at the plaintiff's direction, send it by certified mail, transfer it to a person other than a mail carrier who is authorized to deliver it, or return it to the filing party to arrange service. The sheriff is the default recipient of process under KRS 454.140, while KRS 454.145 lets a judge, for good cause, name another person for one specific paper. Our explainer on Kentucky process server rules goes route by route.
Kentucky has no license or certification for private process servers, and DFS makes no claim that a server holds one. Before accepting a Laurel County serve, we confirm how the clerk issued the summons and whether private delivery or an appointment is needed, and papers that only an officer may serve go to the sheriff. Federal summonses follow Rule 4 and the joint local rules. This is general information rather than legal advice; our Kentucky papers serving guide adds detail.
07A Laurel County angle
London's Growing Federal Docket After Pikeville Closed
Under Eastern District General Order 25-15, the court ended all business at Pikeville effective December 31, 2025, and cases from Pike, Letcher, Floyd and Knott counties now go to the London Division. The London jury division already covered much of southeastern Kentucky, including Laurel, Pulaski, Whitley and Harlan counties. That means more federal summonses issuing in London for defendants who live hours away in the coalfields. Our Pike County process servers handle the far eastern end of that territory.
Federal local rules add their own steps. Joint Local Rule 4.1 says a party serving through the Kentucky Secretary of State must also follow that office's filing procedures, and parties prepare summonses for the clerk to sign and seal under LR 4.3. We match each return to whatever the London clerk expects. Laurel County is also where the first Kentucky Fried Chicken was started, just north of Corbin, and the World Chicken Festival fills London each year, so we plan around festival crowds. Our Berea service team covers the I-75 corridor north.

Process Servers Near Laurel County
Laurel County sits where the I-75 corridor meets the eastern mountains, so its cases travel in every direction. Defendants who moved up the interstate are reached through our Richmond process servers, and the surrounding Madison County service area covers the rest of that county. Addresses west of the Bluegrass go to Danville court paper delivery. Every location uses the same written quote, dated attempt log and signed return, so a case that begins in London keeps one record wherever the defendant has gone.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a private process server deliver papers in Laurel County?
Kentucky's civil rules let the clerk transfer a summons to a person authorized to deliver it, or return it to the filing party to arrange service, and no statute licenses private servers. Practice still varies by court, so we confirm how the Laurel County clerk issued the summons before any attempt. Our overview of serving papers in Kentucky gives the background.
How much does a process server in Laurel County cost?
Laurel County's Routine work is published from $150. From that base, Urgent is 1.5 times, Rush is 2 times and Same Day Rush is 3 times. Remote or unmarked addresses may take more planning, which we raise before work begins. The final price is always confirmed in writing, and Kentucky's county-level service rates show nearby figures.
Where are Laurel County returns filed?
State court returns go to the Circuit Court Clerk at the Laurel County Judicial Center, 305 South Main Street in London, which keeps Circuit and District records. Federal returns for the Southern Division belong to the Eastern District clerk at 310 South Main Street. Each return is drafted to fit the state or federal court that issued it.
Which court handles a Corbin address?
It depends on where the address actually sits. Corbin spans Laurel, Whitley and Knox counties, and Laurel and Knox share the 27th Circuit while Whitley belongs to another. We confirm the county before the first attempt so the return matches the court that issued the papers, and we tell counsel early if the address points somewhere unexpected.
Can papers be left with a relative at the house?
Not for a Kentucky summons. CR 4.04(2) generally means the defendant's own hands, an offer if they refuse, or an agent named by appointment or by law. A private server has no way to leave a Kentucky summons with someone else in the home. If personal delivery keeps failing, your attorney can review the log and consider the clerk's certified mail or a warning order.
Do you serve eviction papers in Laurel County?
Not the forcible detainer notice. KRS 383.210 directs that warrant to the sheriff or any constable, and the AOC-215 notice is addressed to them; enforcing a restitution warrant is also left to them. We can deliver a landlord's written notice to vacate where the lease allows and serve papers in a separate suit. See Kentucky eviction service rules.
What if a Laurel County defendant cannot be found?
We keep a running record of each attempt with its date, time and the server's notes. When a Laurel County defendant has fled the county, is hiding, or has no known residence, counsel's affidavit can support a CR 4.05 warning order. The clerk appoints a warning order attorney, who tries to reach the defendant by mail and reports within 50 days. Read Kentucky steps for an evasive defendant.
How fast can papers be served in London or Corbin?
With Routine service, the first London-area attempt generally follows within several days. Urgent, Rush and Same Day Rush move faster at 1.5, 2 and 3 times the Routine rate, and Same Day depends on the address and the day. Tell us the hearing or filing date and we will confirm in writing what is realistic before you choose a tier.
Is Delator Field Services located in London?
No. Delator Field Services operates as the process serving division of Delator Group, which is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, and has no Kentucky office. For Laurel County work we coordinate service through servers suited to the issuing court, and every job comes with logged attempts, a written price settled beforehand and a signed return.
What should I send with a Laurel County request?
Send the issued summons and complaint, the defendant's full name, every known address, directions for any unmarked road, a description or photo, vehicle details and the deadline. Tell us whether the case is state or federal. If the papers came from another state's court, our process for non-Kentucky papers explains what to include.
