Quick answer
What does a private investigator in Eagle cost?
Eagle field assignments are billed at $100 per hour, and you approve each block of hours in writing before it is used. An asset investigation carries a $1,000 minimum, and scam investigations start at $2,000. A remote deep-dive background check on a person is $300. Our explanation of Idaho investigator fees lays out every published rate.
01Local knowledge
Why Eagle Cases Need an Investigator Who Knows the Northwest Treasure Valley
Eagle sits about ten miles northwest of downtown Boise, and its population grew from 11,085 in 2000 to an estimated 33,451 in 2024. Much of that growth came as large-lot subdivisions and newer neighborhoods spread across land that was once farms and dairies along the Boise River. Ada and Canyon counties together held an estimated 821,264 people in 2025, so an Eagle resident can work, shop and socialize in four or five different cities in a single day. Our Idaho surveillance team plans for that range from the start.
Low-density streets make careless surveillance easy to spot, and a single parked car on a quiet cul-de-sac draws attention fast. We set positions in advance, rotate vehicles where the scope allows and document only from places the public may lawfully be. When a subject travels to a Boise hotel or the airport, coverage continues under our hotel and travel surveillance protocol, with each change of location noted in the log.
- Large-lot neighborhoods along the Boise River
- Daily movement across Ada and Canyon counties
- Quiet streets demand planned positions
02Infidelity, divorce and assets
Infidelity and Divorce Where Significant Assets Are at Stake
Census figures have put Eagle's median household income at about $91,000, and divorces here often involve businesses, rental properties and retirement accounts. Idaho divides marital property under community property rules. Under Idaho Code § 32-906, most property acquired during the marriage is community property, and even rents and profits from separate property can be community unless a written agreement says otherwise. Our guide to hidden assets in an Idaho divorce explains why undisclosed income matters.
Division under § 32-712 starts from a presumption of substantially equal division, and fault is not one of its listed factors. Fault can matter elsewhere: § 32-705 lets the court consider "the fault of either party" when deciding maintenance. That is why attorneys want accurate observations rather than assumptions. We document suspected affairs through married infidelity investigations and trace undisclosed accounts, entities and property through Idaho asset investigations.
03Attorney and litigation support
Supporting Counsel at the Ada County Courthouse and the Boise Federal Court
Eagle is in Ada County, so state cases are filed at the Ada County Courthouse, 200 West Front Street in Boise, within Idaho's Fourth Judicial District. The district also covers Boise, Elmore and Valley counties. Magistrates hear family law, evictions, misdemeanors and civil claims up to $10,000, and district judges take felonies and larger civil actions. Our Idaho attorney support services handle witness locates, recorded statements and trial exhibits.
The U.S. District Court's clerk's office is in the James A. McClure Federal Building at 550 West Fort Street in Boise, and the Idaho Supreme Court sits a few blocks away at 451 West State Street. Business and employment disputes from Eagle often land in one of those buildings. We prepare background profiles of opposing witnesses and parties, and jury pool background research is available for counsel preparing for voir dire within the limits the court sets.
04Employers, owners and the regional economy
Business Investigations for Eagle Owners, Executives and Employers
Eagle's commercial base is made up of professional offices, medical practices, builders, restaurants and owner-run companies, many with employees who live elsewhere in the valley. Micron, headquartered in Boise, has announced plans for two memory fabs in Southeast Boise, and growth on that scale draws new firms and new executives into the area. Before a senior hire, our executive background investigations verify credentials, prior litigation and reputation in the industry.
Construction disputes are common where so much is being built. Homeowners and developers ask us to check a builder's ownership, liens, judgments and licensing history before a contract or a large draw. When a business suspects a manager is diverting funds or working for a competitor, corporate investigations in Idaho define the allegation and gather facts quietly, and off-site employee surveillance documents conduct outside the office. Idaho has no at-will statute; the rule comes from case law, and handbook language can create exceptions, so counsel should review any termination.
- Professional, medical and construction firms
- Executive and partner vetting before commitments
- Facts gathered before any personnel decision
05Elder fraud and family protection
Protecting Older Eagle Residents From Financial Exploitation
Eagle has drawn many retirees, and the Los Angeles Times once described California pension income as central to the local economy. Retirees with savings are frequent targets of romance schemes, investment fraud, fake tech support calls and caregivers who gain control of accounts. Under Idaho Code § 18-1505, exploiting a vulnerable adult's funds, property or power of attorney is a misdemeanor, and a felony when the loss exceeds $1,000. Our elder scam investigations reconstruct how the money moved.
Reports of abuse, neglect or exploitation can be made online through aging.idaho.gov/apsreport or to the Area 3 Agency on Aging at 1505 South Eagle Road in Meridian, (208) 898-7060. Investigators supplement that process; they do not replace it. Families who suspect mistreatment inside a facility can use our care facility abuse investigations, which start at $1,500, and losses involving digital currency are handled through cryptocurrency scam investigations.
06Locates, skip tracing and service
Locating People and Coordinating Service From Eagle to Boise
People who do not want to be found in the Treasure Valley rarely leave it. They move a few miles to a rental in Star, Meridian or Nampa and change their phone number. We combine records research with field confirmation so the address you receive is current, and a basic remote skip trace is $102. When a judgment debtor has assets but no visible address, debtor skip tracing in Idaho connects the two.
Papers for Eagle residents are served through Delator Field Services with logged, time-stamped attempts and a signed affidavit. The published Routine starting rate for Ada County is $125, and the final price is confirmed in writing first. Because Eagle cases are filed in Boise, see our Boise process server page for service details. Under I.R.C.P. 4(b)(2), a defendant not served within 182 days of filing may be dismissed, so locating evasive defendants early protects the case.
07Idaho legal limits
No State PI License in Idaho: What Eagle Clients Should Check
Idaho issues no statewide license for private investigators, and no state board reviews who may advertise the work. Boise's city code licenses private patrol, security services and alarm installers, but the section we reviewed does not mention private investigators. Other Idaho cities, including Chubbuck and Coeur d'Alene, do regulate investigators locally. Before hiring anyone, ask about supervision, insurance and reporting, and use our Idaho investigator vetting checklist to compare firms.
Delator Group is a licensed Tennessee private investigation firm and applies that standard to Idaho assignments. Idaho criminal trespass under § 18-7008 can apply once a person knows they are not welcome, including on fenced or posted land, which limits where an investigator can stand in rural parts of Ada County. Video voyeurism is a felony under § 18-6605. Our article on the legal boundaries for Idaho investigators explains how we plan around those rules.
- Confirm who supervises the case
- Ask how extra hours are approved
- Request a redacted sample report
- Verify insurance in writing

Frequently asked questions
Is a private investigator in Eagle required to have a license?
Idaho has no statewide private investigator license, and the Boise city code section we reviewed does not license investigators either. Some other Idaho cities do regulate them, so local rules should be confirmed where work happens. Delator Group holds a Tennessee license and applies that standard here. Our statewide Idaho services page explains how the firm operates in the state.
Where are Eagle cases heard?
State cases from Eagle are filed at the Ada County Courthouse, 200 West Front Street in Boise, in the Fourth Judicial District. Divorce, custody, evictions and claims up to $10,000 are generally assigned to magistrates. Federal matters go to the U.S. District Court at 550 West Fort Street in Boise, with appeals to the Ninth Circuit.
Can you find assets my spouse is hiding?
Often we can identify them. We search property, entity and court records, review documents you can lawfully provide, and look for spending that does not match reported income. Because Idaho is a community property state, income earned during the marriage and even profits from separate property may be divisible. We report findings to your attorney, who decides how to use them in discovery.
My father sent money to someone he met online. Can you help?
Yes. We identify who received the money, trace how it moved and document the communications, then give your family and law enforcement an organized record. Report the loss to police and, if your father is a vulnerable adult, to Adult Protective Services as well. Our Idaho scam investigation services start at $2,000 and are scoped in writing first.
Do you work out of an Eagle office?
No. Delator Group is based in Nashville, Tennessee, and has no Idaho office. We assign vetted investigators to Eagle and the rest of the state, meet with clients by phone or video, and work in the field wherever the case leads. The same leadership team that runs our Tennessee investigations supervises every Idaho file.
Can you check out a business before I invest?
Yes. We review ownership filings, court cases, judgments, liens, licensing history and public complaints tied to the company and its principals. A remote due diligence report costs $300. Larger investments or acquisitions call for Idaho acquisition risk reviews, which add interviews and deeper research under a written scope. We report only facts relevant to your decision.
What does process service cost for an Eagle address?
Ada County's published Routine starting rate is $125. Urgent service runs 1.5 times that amount, Rush doubles it and Same Day Rush triples it. We confirm the final price in writing before the first attempt, and every attempt is logged with the date and time. The multistate service pricing map compares rates in other states.
Is GPS tracking my spouse's car legal in Idaho?
It can be risky. Idaho Code § 18-7906 lists maintaining surveillance on a person, including by electronic means, as conduct that can support a stalking charge. Ownership of the vehicle and other facts matter, so speak with your attorney before doing anything. Delator does not place trackers on vehicles a client has no right to and relies on lawful surveillance instead.
Can you investigate an employee before we terminate?
Yes. We document suspected misconduct away from the workplace, review records you supply and interview witnesses where appropriate, then deliver a factual report. Idaho employment is presumed at will under case law, but handbooks and public policy can create exceptions. Involve counsel early, and see our wrongful termination investigations for how these disputes are examined.
What helps an Eagle investigation move faster?
Gather full names, dates of birth if known, addresses, vehicles, employers, work schedules and any court dates. Keep a dated list of what you have observed and copies of relevant documents. Do not confront the person or look through their devices, which can alert them and create legal problems. Clear starting facts usually reduce the number of hours needed.
