Quick answer
How do I hire a process server in Boone County?
Send the filed summons and complaint, home and work addresses, any shift schedule you know and the deadline. We check with the Boone clerk in Burlington how the summons issued, set the tier and price in writing and log every visit. Routine starts at $125, and our Florence page covers the county's largest city.
01Local service landscape
Three Cities, an Airport and a Long River Shoreline
Boone County has only three incorporated cities, Florence, Union and part of Walton, yet about 145,000 people live here, many of them in unincorporated subdivisions around Burlington and Hebron. A street address can sit in a mailing city that is not a legal city at all, so we check the location against the county map before quoting. The Florence process service page covers the county's largest commercial area in more depth.
I-75 and I-71 run together through the eastern side of the county and split at Walton, while I-275 crosses the north from Petersburg toward Kenton County. West of those corridors, the roads narrow toward river communities such as Belleview and Rabbit Hash. Our servers group attempts so a Hebron address and a Verona address are not crammed into one window. For neighboring Kenton addresses, see Erlanger papers and attempts and the DFS Kentucky hub.
- Florence and the I-71/I-75 interchanges
- Burlington, Hebron and the airport area
- Union and Walton to the south
- River communities: Petersburg, Belleview, Rabbit Hash
02Attorneys and law firms
Northern Kentucky Litigation Filed on Rogers Lane
Every Boone County case is filed with the Circuit Court Clerk at the Justice Center on Rogers Lane in Burlington, not in Florence, even though Florence is the larger city. That distinction trips up out-of-area firms, so we read the caption and confirm the court before the first attempt. Lawyers who send recurring work can see the intake fields we use on the DFS page for Kentucky law offices.
Many Boone defendants are employers or carriers with operations near the airport, and many plaintiffs are represented by firms in Cincinnati, Louisville or outside the region. When the case is pending in another state, we match the Kentucky delivery and affidavit to the rule of that court, as explained on our interstate papers page. Federal cases from Boone go to the Eastern District's Covington courthouse, and we prepare the proof for that court.
03Evasive and hard-to-serve
Airport Shifts, Secured Facilities and Quiet Cul-de-Sacs
The Amazon Air hub, which began operations in 2017, and the DHL hub that opened in 1984 both sit at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Boone County, and they run on shift schedules (secondary sources). A defendant who works nights may only be home in the morning. We plan attempts at home addresses around those patterns rather than trying to reach people inside secured operations areas, and every visit is logged.
Suburban subdivisions around Union and Burlington are quiet, which makes repeat visits noticeable. When someone clearly avoids the door, the log records dates, times and observations, not guesses. Kentucky allows a warning order under CR 4.05 when a person has concealed himself so a summons cannot be served. The Kentucky guide on dodged service and service for evasive Kentucky parties explain what counsel usually look for, and Sunday attempts are lawful under KRS 454.135.
- Overnight shift workers near the airport
- Secured logistics sites we do not enter uninvited
- Newer subdivisions with HOA rules
- Morning, evening and weekend attempts
04Family, landlord, claim and witness papers
Family Court Petitions, Rental Papers and Witness Subpoenas
Boone Family Court petitions are served personally, by the clerk's certified mail, or through a respondent's signed waiver of service and entry of appearance. With minor children, the 60-day period before proof is generally counted from service, so a slow delivery delays the case. Our divorce paper delivery in Kentucky page explains the options, and the Kentucky small claims page covers $2,500 claims, which the clerk usually mails or sends through the Sheriff.
Florence is on a 2015 list of Kentucky cities that adopted the landlord and tenant act, which generally means 7 days' written notice for unpaid rent; unincorporated Boone may follow different rules, so counsel should confirm. Whatever the notice period, the forcible detainer notice itself goes to the sheriff or a constable under KRS 383.210, and DFS does not serve it. We serve separate rent and damage suits, and our eviction-related papers page lists them.
05Documentation and challenges
Proof That Answers the Questions Before They Are Asked
Kentucky wants proof of service filed promptly and within the defendant's response period (CR 4.03), and a Boone defendant generally has 20 days after service to answer under CR 12.01. We send back a signed proof naming the recipient and giving the date, place and manner. Where the hearing is close, the published faster tiers let counsel choose speed in writing before we start.
When service is challenged, the court usually wants to know whether the right person received the papers and whether they were delivered or offered in person. Our server notes cover appearance, conversation and any refusal. The Kentucky legal papers service guide describes the accepted methods, and Delator Group's history and approach explains why the firm built its process around written records.
06Kentucky service rules
Certified Mail, the Sheriff or a Private Server
Kentucky gives the plaintiff three routes under CR 4.01: the clerk's certified or registered mail, transfer of the summons to a person other than a mail carrier who is authorized to deliver it, or return of the summons to the filing party to arrange service. Certified mail is complete only when the envelope is delivered. KRS 454.140 points process to the sheriff by default, and our who-may-serve guide for Kentucky lays out each path.
No Kentucky statute licenses private process servers, and DFS does not claim a Kentucky license, appointment or listing. For each Boone file, we confirm with the clerk or court how the summons will issue and whether private delivery or a special appointment under KRS 454.145 is needed. If a paper must go through an officer, we route it to the Sheriff and tell you why. Contact DFS about a Burlington filing before the summons issues if you want to plan ahead.
07Local angle
Garnishments, Employers and a County Built on Freight
Freight shapes Boone County's caseload. Large employers here receive wage garnishment orders, and competing orders rank by the date of service on the employer. The AOC-150 form does not say who must deliver it, so we confirm with counsel how the issuing clerk wants the order delivered and documented before taking it. The same care applies to subpoenas for employment records directed to airport-area companies.
Boone shares its judicial circuit with Gallatin County, so some Boone files are heard alongside Gallatin matters, and many residents commute to Kenton, Campbell or Cincinnati. When a co-defendant lives across a county line, we coordinate service under one quote through Kenton County service or the Campbell County page, and the process serve price map shows how those county tiers compare.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are Boone County lawsuits filed?
At the Boone County Justice Center, 6025 Rogers Lane in Burlington, where the Circuit Court Clerk keeps Room 141 and both Circuit and District courts sit. Florence is the largest city but does not host the county courts. Our Kentucky process serving overview explains how county courts are organized statewide.
How much does a process server in Boone County charge?
Routine service in Boone County has a published starting rate of $125. Urgent is 1.5 times that, Rush is twice that and Same Day Rush is three times that. What you pay depends on the address, the deadline and the number of defendants, and we confirm it in writing before any attempt.
Can you serve someone at their airport or warehouse job?
We do not enter secured operations areas without permission. Where workplace service makes sense, we approach a public entrance or an authorized office. More often, we serve the person at home at a time that fits the shift schedule counsel gives us, and log every attempt so the record is clear.
Does DFS serve eviction notices in Florence or Union?
No. Kentucky directs the forcible detainer warrant to the sheriff or a constable under KRS 383.210, and the AOC-215 notice is addressed to them. We also never carry out restitution warrants. We can serve separate suits for rent or damages, and our guide to the Kentucky eviction process explains the steps.
Can papers be handed to a spouse at the door?
Not as service of a summons. Kentucky's CR 4.04(2) requires delivery to the individual, offering the papers if the person refuses, or delivery to an agent authorized by appointment or by law. There is no household-member option, so our servers confirm who they are speaking with before handing over papers.
What can be done if a Boone defendant hides?
Counsel may pursue a warning order under CR 4.05 on an affidavit. The clerk appoints a warning order attorney, who must try to notify the defendant by mail and report within 50 days, and the defendant is deemed summoned 30 days after entry. Our warning order guide for Kentucky explains the details.
How long does a Boone defendant have to respond?
Generally 20 days after service of the summons under CR 12.01, and the summons states that deadline under CR 4.02. Because CR 4.03 expects proof filed within the same period, we return the signed proof promptly. Counsel on a short clock can choose a faster tier in writing before we begin.
Who serves a wage garnishment on a Boone employer?
Kentucky's AOC-150 order does not say who must deliver it, and the employer generally answers within 20 days of receiving it. Because competing orders rank by the date of service on the employer, we confirm with counsel how the issuing clerk wants delivery documented before we accept a garnishment file.
How are Boone County companies served?
Usually through the registered agent on record with the Secretary of State under KRS 14A.4-040, or an officer or managing agent under CR 4.04(5). Out-of-state companies authorized to do business in Kentucky are served through their agent, not the Secretary of State. Our corporate service page for Kentucky explains each option.
Do out-of-county witnesses get paid mileage?
Yes. Under KRS 421.015, a witness who lives in a different county from the one where they are subpoenaed is allowed mileage at the state-employee rate. Any person over 18 may serve the subpoena under CR 45.03. Our Kentucky witness subpoena page explains the proof that must be filed afterward.
