01Local service landscape
Serving Papers in Statesboro and Across Bulloch County
Statesboro is the Bulloch County seat and its largest city, with 33,438 residents at the 2020 census, while the county was estimated at about 86,949 in 2025. U.S. 80 runs northwest to southeast through town, U.S. 25 and U.S. 301 share a route through the center, and Interstate 16 lies about 10 miles south, with an interchange near Register. The city mixes a college town with an agricultural county: farming brings in an estimated $100 million a year in farm gate revenue. Our Savannah process servers handle the coast to the southeast.
Outside the city, papers go to farmhouses, mobile homes and small-town addresses in Brooklet, Portal and Register. County roads can carry route-style numbering, some homes sit at the end of long dirt drives and a mailbox may be a quarter mile from the house. We confirm directions before dispatch so the server can plan a sensible route. Papers headed for the Savannah metro are coordinated with our Chatham County service team.

02Attorneys and law firms
Statesboro Service for Ogeechee Circuit Lawyers and Regional Firms
Statesboro lawyers practice across the four-county Ogeechee Circuit, and Savannah, Augusta and Atlanta firms regularly need a Bulloch defendant served. Agricultural disputes, landlord-tenant cases, family matters and injury suits make up much of the work. We read each set of papers before scheduling, confirm the court and the server it accepts and send a written quote, so counsel knows the cost before anyone drives to a farm road. Our Georgia attorney process serving program supports recurring dockets. Out-of-state firms use our cross-border papers service.
Family-owned farms and agricultural businesses often operate as LLCs or corporations, and the registered agent may be a relative at a home address. Georgia generally requires service on an officer, a managing agent at a Georgia office or facility, or the registered agent, under O.C.G.A. 9-11-4(e)(1)(A). We read the corporate filing first so the server asks for the right person. See our Georgia registered agent service for the Secretary of State fallback.
03Evasive and hard-to-serve
Long Drives, Farm Gates and Defendants Who Avoid the Door
Rural Bulloch County properties can have locked farm gates, dogs, posted signs and houses set far from the road. Our servers do not climb gates or cross posted land; they plan attempts for when the defendant is likely to be arriving or leaving, such as early morning or after field work, and log each visit with what they saw. Georgia's gated-community rule, 9-11-4(f)(4), applies to guarded subdivisions, not a single farm with its own gate. Our page on hard-to-serve defendants in Georgia describes the approach.
When a defendant clearly avoids service, the dated log supports counsel's showing of diligence, which matters most when a suit was filed near a limitation deadline. If personal and abode service fail, the court may order publication under 9-11-4(f)(1) for a defendant who cannot be found after due diligence or who conceals himself. Our Georgia service by publication guide explains the newspaper schedule. Our guide for when a Georgia defendant avoids service lists the steps before that.
04Family law, evictions and subpoenas
Divorce, Dispossessories, Magistrate Claims and Subpoenas in Bulloch County
Bulloch County divorce and custody cases are filed with the Superior Court clerk on Siebald Street. A Bulloch County spouse who cooperates can sign an acknowledgment of service, while other cases need personal or abode service under the Civil Practice Act. We deliver family papers privately and confirm identity first. A Georgia decree generally cannot issue until 31 days after service, according to secondary sources, so a prompt serve keeps the case on track. Our Georgia divorce papers walkthrough explains each route. Family files run through our Georgia divorce papers service.
Statesboro's student rental market creates lease disputes every semester. Since July 1, 2025, O.C.G.A. 44-7-51(a) has allowed a dispossessory summons to be served by an approved process server as well as the sheriff or a constable, though the statute does not say who approves one. We ask the Bulloch Magistrate Court how it handles dispossessories before accepting one and never carry out evictions or writs. Deposit and damage claims up to $15,000 are covered on our magistrate court claims service page. Landlords can read our dispossessory service overview first.

A Bulloch County Return Built for Scrutiny
A Bulloch County serve by a private server is proved under O.C.G.A. 9-11-4(h) with an affidavit giving the date, place and manner of service, filed within five business days in the court where the case sits. The defendant's answer period generally does not begin until proof is filed, so a return that sits on a desk delays the case. Every Statesboro affidavit we deliver is signed, specific and backed by a log of each attempt. Our Georgia rush and same-day service keeps that record on tight deadlines.
Rural serves invite specific challenges: the defendant says the papers were left at the wrong house on a shared drive, or with a farmhand who does not live there. Our affidavits describe the property, the person who accepted and why the server believed that person lived at the dwelling. In Statesboro, as elsewhere outside Tennessee, the serve may be made by a vetted Georgia server under contract with Delator, working to Delator's written documentation standard. Witness returns follow the same format on our Georgia subpoena delivery page.
06Georgia rules
Georgia Service Rules for Statesboro Filings
Under O.C.G.A. 9-11-4(c), Georgia generally permits service by the sheriff or a deputy, a court marshal, a citizen specially appointed by the court, a non-party adult appointed by the court as a process server or permanent process server, and a certified process server under 9-11-4.1. Before working in Bulloch County, a certified server would need a yearly notice of intent that the Bulloch sheriff accepts, and some sheriffs decline. We confirm what the Bulloch court accepts and never claim a certification or appointment we have not verified. Our Georgia guide to who may serve papers lists each category.
Garnishment has its own steps. Under O.C.G.A. 18-4-8, the garnishee is served under 9-11-4, and within three business days the defendant must receive notice by mail or by personal delivery from a non-party adult, a court-appointed server, a sheriff or constable, or a certified server, who then files a certification with the clerk. These are summaries, not legal advice, and the Georgia process serving how-to adds more.

A Federal Division Office That Is Not Always Staffed
Statesboro is the seat of the Southern District of Georgia's Statesboro Division, which covers eight counties from Bulloch to Toombs. The court lists its office at 52 N. Main St. but says it is not always fully staffed and directs mail to a Savannah post office box. Counsel filing federal returns should plan for that and use the court's electronic filing rules. We serve federal papers anywhere in the division under the method counsel selects and prepare a return suited to federal filing. Our Augusta process service covers the Southern District's Augusta Division to the north.
Georgia Southern University, described as a residential university of nearly 20,000 students as of 2015, shapes the city's calendar, with Ogeechee Technical College on U.S. 301 South and East Georgia Regional Medical Center adding staff on rotating schedules. Student tenants often leave in May and return in August, so serving early in a term is wise when a case allows it. We do not enter residence halls or classrooms without authorization. Defendants who moved toward the Augusta suburbs are served through our Columbia County servers.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a process server in Statesboro cost?
Routine service in Bulloch County has a published starting rate of $130. Bulloch County's Urgent tier is $195, Rush $260 and Same Day $390. Your Statesboro price turns on the address, the deadline and the papers, and we confirm it in writing before anyone knocks. The Georgia pricing map shows nearby counties.
Which judicial circuit is Statesboro in?
Statesboro and Bulloch County are in the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit, which also covers Effingham, Jenkins and Screven counties. Superior Court papers are filed with the clerk at 20 Siebald Street. Federal cases belong to the Southern District of Georgia's Statesboro Division, whose office the court says is not always fully staffed.
Can you serve a rural Bulloch County address with a locked gate?
Our servers do not climb gates or cross posted land. They plan attempts for times the defendant is likely to come and go and log each visit. Georgia's gated-community rule applies to guarded subdivisions, not single farms. If attempts fail, counsel can use the log to ask the court about another method of service.
Can you serve a Georgia Southern student?
For Statesboro students, home service comes first. We do not enter residence halls, classrooms or restricted campus areas without authorization, and any campus approach is discussed with counsel first. Because many student tenants leave in May, we suggest serving early in a term when the case allows, and our hard-to-serve service covers students who avoid the door.
Can you serve a dispossessory in Statesboro?
Only after we confirm the Bulloch Magistrate Court's practice. Georgia law has allowed an approved process server to serve the summons since July 1, 2025, along with the sheriff or a constable, but it does not define approval. Evictions and writs in Statesboro stay with law enforcement, never with us. The Georgia eviction service guide walks Statesboro landlords through each step.
How long does a Bulloch County defendant have to answer?
In Bulloch County superior and state court, the answer is generally due 30 days after service, and the count generally waits until proof of service is filed. Magistrate claims also allow 30 days. A dispossessory answer is due seven days after actual service, or the next business day if the seventh day is a weekend or holiday. Counsel should confirm the date.
Do out-of-county witnesses need a fee with the subpoena?
Yes. A Bulloch County subpoena to a witness living outside the county where testimony is given is valid under O.C.G.A. 24-13-25 only when served with a tender of one day's $25 fee plus 45 cents a mile. Counsel provides the tender and we record it on the return. Our witness subpoena service lists the exceptions.
What does a Bulloch County affidavit of service include?
The date, place and manner of service, a description of the property where useful, a name or description of the person served and the server's signature, as O.C.G.A. 9-11-4(h) requires. We prepare the Statesboro return so it can be filed within five business days. Behind each Statesboro affidavit is a log of every attempt, which counsel can request.
Can you serve a defendant who moved out of Georgia?
For a Statesboro case, Georgia allows personal service outside the state in some situations, including in place of publication, and the defendant then has 30 days to answer. Out-of-state serves for Statesboro cases run under the same written quote and documentation standard. Our service of Georgia papers in other states page explains the process.
Does Delator Field Services have a Statesboro office?
No. Delator Field Services, the process serving division of Delator Group, runs Statesboro files from its Nashville, Tennessee headquarters and keeps no Georgia office. We coordinate Bulloch County service through servers who meet the issuing court's requirements, confirmed in writing before the first attempt, and each file keeps one point of contact from start to finish.
