01Local service landscape
Serving Papers in Danville and Across Boyle County
Danville is the Boyle County seat, with 17,234 residents at the 2020 census, and Circuit, District and Family Court all work out of the courthouse on West Main Street. U.S. 127 runs northwest toward Harrodsburg and south toward Liberty, U.S. 150 runs west to Perryville and southeast to Stanford, and bypasses wrap the west and south sides of town. Defendants who commute north along KY 34 toward Fayette County may be easier to reach through our Lexington, Kentucky servers.
Outside the city, Boyle County is small towns and farmland: Perryville to the west, Junction City to the south and county roads in between. Addresses on rural routes can be hard to match to a house, so we confirm directions and landmarks before dispatch and never pass a closed gate. Our guide to serving legal papers in Kentucky explains why that preparation matters. When a defendant has moved north into Jessamine County, the file goes to our Nicholasville process service team.
- Main Street and downtown Danville
- Neighborhoods inside the U.S. 127 and U.S. 150 bypasses
- Perryville and Junction City

02Attorneys and law firms
Danville Service for Boyle, Mercer and Lexington Counsel
The 50th Judicial Circuit covers Boyle and Mercer counties, so a Danville practice often has cases on both the Danville and Harrodsburg dockets. Lexington and Louisville firms with a Boyle County defendant add their own timetables. We confirm the issuing court, how the clerk handled the summons and the response date before quoting, and one coordinator stays with the file. Our service desk for Kentucky attorneys explains intake.
Danville's institutions include a liberal arts college, the state-run Kentucky School for the Deaf, two school districts and a Norfolk Southern freight yard, and each kind of defendant calls for the right recipient. CR 4.04(5) allows service on an officer, a managing agent, the chief agent in the county where the action is brought, or an agent authorized by appointment or law. A public body is served on its designated official, such as the county judge for a county. We check the entity's records before dispatch, and the Kentucky company service page lists what to send.
03Evasive and hard-to-serve
Small-Town Visibility, Farm Roads and Defendants Who Avoid Papers
In a county this size, people often hear that papers are coming, and some respond by staying out of sight. Kentucky's CR 4.04(2) requires the summons to reach the defendant personally, by offer if the defendant refuses, or through an authorized agent, so word-of-mouth delivery through a relative does not count. We vary the days and hours of attempts and keep a dated log of each one. Our service for evasive Kentucky defendants describes how we work.
Where a defendant has concealed himself so a summons cannot be served, or has left the county to avoid it, CR 4.05 lets the clerk issue a warning order on an affidavit. The clerk then appoints a warning order attorney, who tries to reach the defendant by mail and reports to the court within 50 days. A full attempt record helps counsel decide whether to ask for that step. See the warning order attorney explainer and the Kentucky guide to evasive defendants.
04Family law, evictions and subpoenas
Family Papers, Landlord Disputes, Small Claims and Subpoenas in Boyle County
Boyle Family Court hears Danville dissolution, custody and support cases. A respondent who is willing can file a waiver of service and entry of appearance; otherwise, the petition is delivered in person, sent by clerk mail or, in limited cases, handled by warning order. We serve family papers privately and avoid workplaces when another option exists. The Kentucky divorce papers delivery page has more, and our Kentucky divorce guide explains the 60-day timing rule.
Kentucky eviction notices in forcible detainer cases go to the sheriff or a constable under KRS 383.210, and the officer gives at least three days' notice of trial. We leave those notices and warrants of restitution to officers. Boyle County is not on the 2015 URLTA list we have seen, and outside URLTA areas a tenancy at will generally ends on one month's written notice under KRS 383.195. Small claims up to $2,500 go by clerk mail or sheriff, and subpoenas may be served by any adult over 18.
- Boyle Family Court petitions and motions
- Written notices to vacate where the lease allows
- Separate suits for rent or property damage
- Hearing and deposition subpoenas

Boyle County Proof That Answers a Challenge
CR 4.03 asks for proof of service to be filed promptly and within the period the defendant has to respond. When the clerk transfers the summons to an authorized person, that person's endorsed return is the proof, and a court appointee under KRS 454.145 verifies the return by affidavit. Each Danville return we prepare names the person served, the address, the date, the time and how identity was confirmed. Short deadlines go through our Boyle County rush service.
A contested serve is decided on details. Our attempt log shows every visit, including the ones that failed, and the return states whether the papers were handed over or offered after a refusal. That is what counsel needs if a defendant later swears he never received anything. Serves outside Tennessee may be carried out by vetted servers Delator contracts with, under Delator's documentation standard. Witness proof is covered on our Kentucky subpoena service page.
06Kentucky rules
Kentucky's Service Rules Explained for Danville Cases
Under CR 4.01, as of 2026, the clerk issues the summons and, at the plaintiff's direction, sends it by certified mail, transfers it to an authorized person other than a mail carrier, or returns it to the plaintiff to arrange service. Process is addressed by statute to the sheriff (KRS 454.140), and a Boyle judge who finds good cause may designate someone for one paper (KRS 454.145). No license exists for private servers in Kentucky. Our Kentucky explainer on authorized servers covers each route.
A Kentucky defendant generally has 20 days to answer after service, under CR 12.01. For a defendant who now lives outside Kentucky, CR 4.04(8) allows personal delivery by any person over 18, proved by an affidavit stating the time and place and that the server personally knew the person served. These are plain summaries, not legal advice, and your attorney can confirm them. Our Kentucky small claims papers guide and service of papers for other states page add detail.
07Danville angle
A Town of Firsts and a Courthouse That Still Anchors Main Street
Danville was settled in 1783 and formally established by the Virginia legislature in 1787, and ten conventions held here between 1784 and 1792 led to Kentucky's separation from Virginia. The state's first constitution was written and signed at what is now Constitution Square. That history keeps downtown busy with visitors, events and college traffic from Centre College, which affects parking and timing on Main Street. Defendants who work toward Richmond are reached through our Berea, Kentucky process serving team.
The town also carries a medical first: Ephraim McDowell performed a pioneering abdominal operation here in 1809, and his house is now a museum. For service, the practical lesson is that downtown Danville mixes historic homes, upper-floor apartments and small offices, often with shared entrances. We confirm the exact unit before an attempt. Files that also involve Pulaski County defendants go to our Pulaski County servers, and the Kentucky statewide service hub covers the rest.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a process server in Danville cost?
Routine service in Boyle County has a published starting rate of $140. Boyle County's Urgent tier is $210, Rush is $280 and Same Day is $420. What you pay depends on the address, the deadline and the papers, and we confirm the figure in writing before the first attempt. The Boyle County rate finder also shows the counties around it.
Where are Danville court papers filed?
Boyle County's Circuit, District and Family Courts and the Circuit Court Clerk are in the Boyle County Courthouse at 321 W. Main St., Danville. The clerk keeps both Circuit and District Court records, so Danville returns are filed there. Federal returns for Boyle County cases go to the Eastern District clerk's office at 101 Barr St. in Lexington.
Can a spouse or parent accept papers for a Danville defendant?
Not for a summons. CR 4.04(2) permits personal delivery, an offer to a defendant who refuses, or delivery to an agent authorized by appointment or law, and there is no household option. Minors and persons of unsound mind are served through a guardian, parent or custodian in the order CR 4.04(3) sets. For an ordinary adult defendant, we keep attempting and log each visit.
Do Boyle County process servers need a Kentucky license?
Kentucky has no statute that licenses private servers of legal papers. The civil rules allow the clerk to mail the summons, transfer it to a person authorized to deliver it, or return it to the plaintiff to arrange delivery, and a court may appoint a person for a particular paper. We confirm how the Boyle clerk handled your summons before the first attempt.
How long does a Boyle County defendant have to answer?
Under CR 12.01, generally 20 days after the summons is served, and that period appears on the summons. Proof should be on file promptly and within those 20 days under CR 4.03. When a warning order is used, the defendant is deemed summoned on the 30th day after its entry. Counsel should calculate deadlines from the date on our return.
Can you serve a Danville defendant who has moved out of Kentucky?
Yes. CR 4.04(8) allows Kentucky papers to be delivered outside the state by any person over 18, or by clerk certified mail, with an affidavit stating the time and place and that the server personally knew the person served. Service that way without an appearance does not support a personal judgment. Our Kentucky papers bound for other states page explains the steps.
Will you serve a Danville eviction notice?
No. Kentucky directs the forcible detainer warrant and notice to the sheriff or a constable, and only an officer may leave it with a family member over 16 or post it under KRS 454.030. We do not serve that notice or carry out set-outs. We can deliver a landlord's written notice before suit where the lease allows, as the Kentucky forcible detainer explainer describes.
Do you serve papers in Mercer County for Danville lawyers?
Yes. Mercer County shares the 50th Judicial Circuit with Boyle County, and Harrodsburg addresses are coordinated through the same intake. Mercer County has a published Routine starting rate of $140, the same as Boyle. Each leg of a multi-county file is quoted in writing, and the Kentucky attorney process service desk keeps one contact on the file.
Can papers be served in Danville on a Sunday or holiday?
Yes. Kentucky law gives a defendant no privilege of exemption from civil service on Sundays or holidays, except in narrow situations such as attending court as a witness. KRS 454.125 also makes it no objection that process was issued on a holiday. We agree attempt days and hours with counsel in advance, and our guide to who may serve Kentucky papers explains the rest of the framework.
Does Delator Field Services have a Danville office?
No. Delator Field Services, the process serving division of Delator Group, a Tennessee firm headquartered in Nashville, has no office in Kentucky. Boyle County serves are coordinated from Nashville through servers suited to the court and county involved, with the price confirmed in writing and a single contact from intake to the signed return.
