Send the filed papers or call us. We confirm the defendant's county and which kind of server the issuing court accepts, then email the tier and price before the first attempt. Routine service in Coweta County has a published starting rate of $125, and the Georgia county-by-county rate map shows neighboring counties.

01Local service landscape

Serving Papers in Newnan and Coweta County

Newnan had 42,549 residents at the 2020 census, up from 33,039 in 2010, and Coweta County was estimated at about 160,240 in 2025. That growth shows up in newer subdivisions and apartment communities around the Ashley Park retail area, alongside the older homes that earned the city its motto, City of Homes. Interstate 85 crosses the eastern side of the city with exits 41, 44 and 47, and U.S. 29 runs through the center, so a server can usually reach any Newnan address quickly. The Coweta County process serving page covers the outlying towns.

Beyond the city, Coweta mixes small downtowns such as Senoia and Grantville with rural roads near the Chattahoochee River on the county's western edge. Palmetto sits partly in Coweta and partly in Fulton County, so we confirm which county an address falls in before quoting. A Fulton-side address follows Fulton's sheriff and marshal arrangements instead, which our South Fulton service page explains. Addresses farther north on I-85 fall to our Fulton County process service team.

02Attorneys and law firms

Newnan Process Service for Coweta Bar and Atlanta Firms

Newnan firms near the Greenville Street courthouse handle family, real estate, personal injury and business disputes, and Atlanta firms regularly need a Coweta defendant served before a scheduling order runs. Out-of-state counsel often have a single Georgia defendant who lives off I-85 south of the airport. Each gets the same intake: the papers are read before scheduling, the correct court and county are confirmed, and the price arrives by email. Recurring dockets can follow our attorney process serving program.

Coweta also hosts a federal division, so Newnan practitioners see papers from both systems. A Coweta Superior Court summons follows the Georgia Civil Practice Act, while a complaint filed in the Newnan Division follows Federal Rule 4. Counsel chooses the method for federal work, and we write the return to match. Firms serving a company here can review our corporate officer and registered agent service before sending the papers.

03Evasive and hard-to-serve

Commuters, New Subdivisions and Defendants Who Will Not Answer

Many Coweta residents commute up I-85 toward Atlanta and the airport, leaving before dawn and returning after dark. A house that looks empty at noon may be occupied by 7 p.m. Our servers schedule attempts across mornings, evenings and weekends, note vehicles and who answers, and keep every visit lawful and calm. In new subdivisions, house numbers and street names sometimes lag behind mapping apps, so the server confirms the address on site before attempting. Our page on serving defendants who dodge the door describes the approach.

When a defendant clearly avoids service, the log becomes the evidence. Counsel can rely on it to show reasonable diligence, which matters when a case was filed close to a limitation deadline. If nothing works, the court may consider publication under O.C.G.A. 9-11-4(f)(1) for a defendant who cannot be found after due diligence or who conceals himself. Our explainer on what to do when someone avoids service outlines those options. The service by publication guide covers the newspaper schedule.

04Family law, evictions and subpoenas

Divorce, Dispossessories, Magistrate Claims and Subpoenas in Coweta County

Coweta divorce and custody cases are filed in the Superior Court on Greenville Street. Georgia's self-help divorce form lets a defendant sign an acknowledgment of service, and it also describes sheriff service and publication, while the Civil Practice Act's other service options remain available. We serve family papers privately, confirm identity and avoid scenes at work or school. A Georgia decree generally cannot issue until 31 days after service, according to secondary sources, so prompt service matters. Our Georgia divorce service guide explains the choices.

Coweta's growth brings a steady flow of rental disputes. Since July 1, 2025, O.C.G.A. 44-7-51(a) lets a dispossessory summons be served by the sheriff, a constable or an approved process server, but the statute does not define approval. We ask the Coweta Magistrate Court how it handles the summons before accepting one, and we never carry out writs or set-outs. Witness subpoenas for Coweta hearings are covered on our Georgia subpoena delivery page. Landlords should read our Georgia eviction service guide first.

  • Coweta dispossessories only once the court confirms
  • Magistrate claims up to $15,000

05Documentation

Proof of Service That Holds Up in a Coweta Courtroom

In Coweta County cases, O.C.G.A. 9-11-4(h) has the private server prove service with an affidavit of the date, place and manner, filed within five business days in the court hearing the case. The defendant's time to answer generally does not begin until that proof is filed, so a slow return delays the whole case. Every Newnan affidavit we deliver is signed, specific and paired with a log of each attempt, including the ones that failed. Business serves get the same treatment, and the registered agent records we return name the officer or agent who accepted.

If a defendant later claims the papers went to the wrong person, the record shows who accepted them, how the server identified that person and why the server believed he or she lived at the address. The court may allow an affidavit to be amended unless material prejudice would result, but a clear first return is better. Serves outside Tennessee may be carried out by vetted Georgia servers Delator contracts with under Delator's documentation standard. Our rush and same-day service page covers urgent returns, and magistrate claim returns follow the same format.

06Georgia rules

Georgia's Service Rules, Explained for Newnan Cases

Under O.C.G.A. 9-11-4(c), Georgia generally allows service by a sheriff or deputy, a court marshal, a citizen specially appointed by the court, a non-party adult appointed as a process server or permanent process server, or a certified process server. A certified server may work only in counties whose sheriff accepts a yearly notice of intent, so we confirm the Coweta County position for your case rather than assume it. We never claim a Georgia certification or appointment we have not confirmed for that court. Our guide on who can serve papers in Georgia lists each category.

Individuals are generally served in person or at their dwelling with a resident of suitable age and discretion. Businesses are served through an officer, managing agent or registered agent, with the Secretary of State as a fallback in limited cases. A defendant can also waive service under 9-11-4(d), which gives at least 30 days to return the waiver. These are summaries, not legal advice, and our step-by-step Georgia service guide adds detail.

What the 2025 Circuit Split Means for Newnan Filings

On January 1, 2025, Carroll and Heard counties left the Coweta Judicial Circuit to form the West Georgia Circuit, Georgia's 51st. What remains of the Coweta Circuit, Newnan's circuit, is Coweta, Meriwether and Troup counties. Older pleadings, letterhead and online guides sometimes still describe the five-county circuit, so we check the caption and issuing court on every file. A Carroll County case now belongs to the West Georgia Circuit, which our Carrollton process serving page covers.

Newnan is also a federal court town in its own right, as the seat of the Northern District's Newnan Division. Federal papers filed there can name defendants anywhere in the division's nine counties, from LaGrange in Troup County to Griffin in Spalding. We coordinate those serves under one written quote. The historic downtown, with antebellum homes the Civil War largely spared, has appeared in film and television productions. Our Peachtree City service page covers the Fayette side of the division.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which judicial circuit is Newnan in now?

Newnan and Coweta County remain in the Coweta Judicial Circuit, which now covers Coweta, Meriwether and Troup counties. Carroll and Heard counties left on January 1, 2025, to form the West Georgia Circuit. We check the caption on every file so the return is addressed to the right court, and the Carrollton page covers the new circuit.

How much does a process server in Newnan cost?

A Newnan serve starts from Coweta County's published Routine rate of $125. For Coweta County, Urgent runs $188, Rush $250 and Same Day $375. The final price depends on the address, the deadline and the papers, and it is confirmed in writing before the first attempt, so the invoice matches the quote.

Can a certified process server serve in Coweta County?

A Georgia certified process server may serve only in counties whose sheriff accepts the server's yearly notice of intent, and some sheriffs refuse. We confirm the Coweta position for your case before relying on that route, or use a court-appointed server or the sheriff instead. The Georgia guide to who may serve process lists the options.

Do you serve federal papers from the Newnan Division?

Yes. The Northern District's Newnan Division covers nine counties, including Coweta, Carroll, Fayette and Troup. For Newnan federal work, Federal Rule 4 governs and counsel chooses the method. We prepare a return suited to federal filing and log every attempt. For papers issued outside Georgia, see our out-of-state papers service. Each federal return lists the date, time and place.

Can you serve a dispossessory in Newnan?

Only after we confirm the court's practice. Since July 1, 2025, Georgia law lets a dispossessory summons be served by an approved process server as well as the sheriff or a constable, but it does not define approval, and many magistrate courts still route evictions to the sheriff. Evictions and writs in Newnan stay with law enforcement, never with us. Our dispossessory service page has more.

What if a Newnan defendant works in Atlanta all day?

We schedule early-morning, evening and weekend attempts at the home first. Workplace service is discussed with counsel before it is tried, because it can embarrass a defendant unnecessarily and some buildings restrict entry. Each attempt is logged with the time and what the server saw, giving your attorney a clear record of diligence if the court needs one.

What does a Coweta County affidavit of service include?

It states the date, place and manner of service, identifies or describes the person served and is signed by the server, as O.C.G.A. 9-11-4(h) requires for private service. We prepare the Newnan return so it can be filed within five business days. A log of every attempt supports it, and counsel can request the log at any time.

Is there a special rule for subpoenas served on out-of-county witnesses?

Yes. Under O.C.G.A. 24-13-25, a subpoena to a witness who lives outside the county where testimony is given is valid only if served with a tender of one day's fee, $25, plus 45 cents a mile. Counsel provides the tender, and we record it on the return. Our Georgia subpoena guide explains the exceptions.

Can papers be left at a Senoia or Sharpsburg home with a relative?

At a Newnan home, Georgia generally permits abode service only on someone of suitable age and discretion who resides there. In Newnan, a visiting relative or neighbor does not qualify. The affidavit names or describes who accepted the papers and why the server believed that person lived there, and counsel decides whether abode service suits the case. Neighbors and guests are never used.

Is Delator Field Services based in Newnan?

No. Delator Field Services is Delator Group's process serving division, and Newnan work is managed from Nashville, Tennessee, since there is no Georgia office. We coordinate Coweta County service through servers who meet the court's requirements, confirmed before the first attempt. Questions about the firm are answered on our about Delator Group page.
