01Local knowledge

Why Castle Rock Cases Need an Investigator Who Knows Douglas County

Castle Rock is the county seat and largest municipality in Douglas County, and it grew from about 73,162 residents in 2020 to roughly 83,815 in the 2025 Census estimate. The town is named for the butte just north of downtown. Interstate 25 runs through it, with State Highway 86 becoming Founders Parkway and US 85 joining I-25 at Exit 184. Our surveillance investigations across Colorado plan around those few interchanges, because most trips in and out of town funnel through them.

Neighborhoods spread across hills and mesas, from The Meadows on the west side to newer developments to the east, with Castle Pines and The Pinery to the north, Franktown to the east and Larkspur to the south. Long, curving subdivision streets with little on-street parking make discreet positioning difficult, so we scout before the first shift. If a subject leaves Colorado, out-of-state surveillance continues under the same scope, and the Colorado investigations overview explains how leadership supervises every file.

  • Douglas County seat; population about 83,815
  • I-25, US 85 and SH 86 meet near Exit 184
  • Castle Pines, Franktown and Larkspur nearby

02Infidelity, family and custody

Infidelity, Divorce and Parenting-Time Investigations in Castle Rock

Colorado is a no-fault divorce state, so a spouse does not have to prove an affair to end a marriage. In a household with significant assets, though, money spent on a relationship or moved out of reach can matter a great deal. Our Colorado married infidelity investigations document conduct from lawful vantage points, and asset investigations in Colorado search public records for property, entities and liens that never made it onto a financial disclosure. Asset work carries a $1,000 minimum.

Once a Colorado divorce is filed and the other spouse is served, C.R.S. § 14-10-107 imposes an automatic temporary injunction that generally bars hiding or transferring marital property outside the ordinary course and removing the children from Colorado without consent or a court order. Parenting decisions then follow the best-interest factors in § 14-10-124. We record exchanges, supervision and household conditions with dated notes, never involving the child, and our guide to hidden assets in a Colorado divorce explains what to watch for.

For attorneys picking a jury, jury pool research in Colorado reviews public information where the court permits it.

04Business, insurance and the local economy

Real Estate, Contractor and Employer Investigations in a Growing Town

Fast growth brings land deals, new subdivisions, contractor disputes and a steady stream of business formation. Before a purchase or a lawsuit, our real estate risk investigations review ownership history, liens, litigation and the people behind a seller or builder. Homeowners who believe a vehicle repair was padded or never done can use our auto shop scam investigations, which document invoices, parts and witness accounts for small claims court or counsel.

Employers along the I-25 corridor face the same internal problems as any growing workforce: theft, timesheet abuse and complaints that need a neutral fact-finder. Workplace surveillance in Colorado documents conduct during work hours under a written scope, and insurance carriers can order workers' comp surveillance gathered lawfully in public places. Colorado makes a knowingly false workers' compensation statement a class 6 felony under C.R.S. § 8-43-402, and our reports note facts that help the claimant as well.

06Colorado legal limits

No Colorado PI License Exists: How to Vet a Castle Rock Investigator

Colorado does not currently license private investigators. The state required a license starting in 2015, but the 2020 sunset bill, HB20-1207, was vetoed on July 11, 2020, and the related rules were repealed in 2022. Anyone can advertise as a private investigator in Castle Rock, Colorado, so the questions you ask matter. Request a certificate of insurance, a written scope with hours and price, a redacted sample report and the name of a supervisor. Our step-by-step Colorado vetting guide covers each, and Delator Group applies its Tennessee firm license standard here.

Colorado criminal law still limits how evidence is gathered. Recording a conversation generally requires one participant's consent, and violations can be class 2 misdemeanors. Stalking under C.R.S. § 18-3-602 includes repeatedly placing a person under surveillance in a way that causes serious emotional distress, and it is a class 5 felony on a first offense. Third degree trespass under § 18-4-504 covers entering private property without right. That is why our investigators stay on public ground and never place trackers. Read Colorado's limits on investigators.

  • Certificate of liability insurance
  • Written scope listing hours and price
  • Redacted sample report
  • A named supervisor on the file

07The new-district angle

What the New 23rd Judicial District Means for Castle Rock Cases

On January 14, 2025, Colorado's 23rd Judicial District began operating, with judges sworn in at the Douglas County Courthouse in Castle Rock. The court system called it the first new judicial district created in 62 years. Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties left the old 18th District, which now covers Arapahoe County alone. Cases filed before the split, older docket records and some forms may still refer to the 18th, so counsel can confirm how a pending matter was transferred before relying on an old caption or contact list.

For investigators, the change means one district now spans the suburban I-25 corridor and the open country of Elbert and Lincoln counties to the east. A witness in Elizabeth or Limon is in the same district as a party in Castle Rock, but travel and service costs differ: published Routine service starts at $150 in Elbert County and $195 in Lincoln County. Our Colorado investigative consulting helps attorneys plan record pulls and interviews across the district, and witness background checks prepare counsel before testimony.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does a private investigator in Castle Rock, Colorado need a state license?

No, because Colorado has no current state license for investigators. A mandatory license applied from 2015 until the program ended after a 2020 veto, and the state's investigator rules were repealed in 2022. That leaves clients to check insurance, supervision and sample work. Delator Group holds a Tennessee firm license and works Douglas County files to that bar. Our Colorado investigator cost guide explains pricing.

Is Castle Rock still in the 18th Judicial District?

No. Since January 14, 2025, Douglas County has been part of the new 23rd Judicial District, together with Elbert and Lincoln counties. The 18th District now covers Arapahoe County only. Older filings and documents may still reference the 18th, so your attorney can confirm how a pending case was handled. Court remains at the Douglas County Courthouse on Justice Way.

Can surveillance prove my spouse is having an affair?

Surveillance can document what your spouse actually does in public places, with dated photographs and a timeline, but we never guarantee a particular finding. Colorado divorce is no-fault, so your attorney decides whether the conduct matters, for example to spending, hidden assets or credibility. If the relationship appears to involve a colleague, see our workplace infidelity investigations.

Is secretly recording my husband or wife legal in Colorado?

Generally you may record a conversation you are part of, because Colorado requires only one participant's consent. Secretly recording conversations you are not part of, or planting a device in a car or room, can be charged as eavesdropping or wiretapping. Ask your attorney before recording anything and review our Colorado recording law guide.

How do you help in a Douglas County parenting-time case?

We observe and document exchanges, supervision, household conditions and safety concerns, with every entry dated and located, and we never contact or follow a child. That record lets your lawyer match observed facts to the § 14-10-124 factors a Douglas County judge must weigh. Our Colorado custody investigation guide explains what tends to be useful in court.

What does surveillance cost in Castle Rock?

Surveillance is $100 per investigator hour, and you approve the hours, days and travel in writing before work begins. Many Castle Rock clients begin with one or two carefully chosen shifts, review the log with their attorney and then decide whether to continue. Remote services such as the $300 due diligence report are priced separately.

Can you check out a builder or contractor before I hire them?

Yes. We review business filings, litigation, liens, judgments and public complaints tied to the company and its principals, and we confirm whether the people involved have operated under other names. Where a deal involves land or a business purchase, our corporate acquisition risk reviews go deeper into ownership and liabilities.

Do you have an office in Castle Rock?

No. Delator Group is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, and assigns vetted investigators to Castle Rock and the rest of Douglas County as each case requires. A member of leadership owns every file, so you deal with one accountable team and one written scope. Phone (629) 310-8667 or send a confidential note through the contact page.

Can you find someone who has been avoiding my lawsuit?

In many cases, yes. We combine records research, lawful open-source work and field checks to find a current address and pattern, and we document every attempt. That record matters, because a Colorado court ordering substituted service under C.R.C.P. 4(f) expects an affidavit describing diligent efforts. Our hit-and-run skip tracing uses similar methods to identify drivers.

Can you serve legal papers in Castle Rock?

Yes. Delator Field Services coordinates service of process in Douglas County with logged, time-stamped attempts and a signed affidavit of service. Routine service has a published starting rate of $130, with Urgent, Rush and Same Day Rush at 1.5, 2 and 3 times that rate, confirmed in writing first. See our Colorado legal papers service guide.
