Dating Background Checks in Colorado
Delator Group runs dating background checks in Colorado so people can confirm a new partner is real before trust, money or children are involved. We verify identity, review Colorado court registers and the CBI's name-based criminal history check, check the state's offender website and test the story for romance scam patterns. A basic remote check is $102, confirmed in writing.

Quick answer
What do dating background checks in Colorado show?
They confirm whether a person's name, age and location are genuine, whether they appear in Colorado court registers for criminal, civil, domestic or protection order matters, and whether a name-based CBI search returns Colorado criminal history. They also flag romance scam patterns. Nothing involves contacting the person, and our published Colorado rates are set before research starts.
01Why people call
Why People Along the Front Range Check a Match First
Colorado gained roughly 240,000 residents between the 2020 Census and the 2025 estimate, and most of that growth landed along the I-25 corridor from Fort Collins to Pueblo. Newcomers meet through apps rather than shared schools, congregations or old friends, so no one can vouch for the person across the table. Someone who says they relocated from Texas or California may carry a history that Colorado indexes never show. Our investigators who cover Fort Collins and the rest of northern Colorado hear that concern regularly.
Military and resort communities create their own patterns. Fort Carson, Peterson and the Air Force Academy bring service members and contractors through El Paso County on rotation, and scammers borrow that setting because a deployment explains why they cannot meet in person. Ski towns along I-70 draw seasonal workers who arrive in November and leave in April. A short identity review from our Colorado Springs team or our Denver investigators usually answers the first question quickly.
02What the report covers
Identity, Colorado Court Registers and CBI History
The $102 basic check begins with identity: does a real person carry the name you were given, with an age and address history that fit the story? We then review Colorado state court registers of actions through the Judicial Branch's approved vendors, which list civil, domestic, small claims, felony and misdemeanor cases but not the documents themselves. Denver County Court is administered separately, so Denver addresses get an extra step. Prior addresses in other states are searched too, which is why we confirm where someone has lived before reading any results.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation runs a name-based Internet Criminal History Check that covers Colorado records only and leaves out sealed arrests and most juvenile matters, so a clean result is not the end of the inquiry. Every hit is tied to at least two identifiers before it goes in a report. The $300 deep-dive level adds employment and education checks, civil litigation detail and a closer look at public social media. If a story about work or home needs confirming in person, our Colorado surveillance specialists can do it lawfully from public places.
- Name, age and address history confirmed
- Colorado court registers for criminal, civil and domestic cases
- CBI name-based criminal history search
- Employment and education checks at the deep-dive level
03Money and fraud
Romance Scams and Colorado's Crypto Kiosk Limits
Romance fraud runs on a script: an intense early connection, a quick move off the dating app, repeated excuses about video calls and finally a crisis, a customs fee or an investment only you can help with. Colorado took direct aim at one payment channel. Under SB25-079, effective January 1, 2026, crypto kiosk operators face daily limits of $2,000 for new customers and $10,500 for existing ones, and a new customer's first transaction sent outside the U.S. can be refunded if fraud is reported within 60 days. Our crypto fraud tracing documents those transactions for that process.
Fake profiles often reuse photos taken from real people. Reverse image searches, combined with checks on a claimed employer and hometown, usually show whether an identity holds together. We assemble what we find in a format a bank, the operator of a kiosk or a police detective can act on. Older Coloradans are frequent targets, and our elder fraud work covers that side, while the Colorado scam investigation page explains the $2,000 minimum for full scam engagements.
- Avoids live video or keeps postponing a meeting
- Pushes to leave the dating platform
- Requests crypto, gift cards or wire transfers
- Profile photos appear online under other names
04When contact turns unsafe
When Dating Contact Becomes Stalking or Harassment
Colorado's stalking statute, C.R.S. § 18-3-602, generally covers repeatedly following, contacting or placing a person under surveillance in a way that would cause a reasonable person serious emotional distress and does. A first offense is a class 5 felony. Harassment under § 18-9-111 separately reaches repeated electronic messages, including texts and social media posts, sent to harass, annoy or alarm. People in that situation usually need our stalking investigations more than a records check, and we start by preserving the evidence.
Civil protection orders under title 13, article 14 of the Colorado statutes are another path, and petitioners who are victims of stalking or domestic abuse pay no filing fee. Courts and sheriffs often handle service of those orders, and our Colorado process servers can deliver them when the court and the client direct a private server. We organize call logs, screenshots and account details so an attorney can present them clearly, and our Aurora investigators handle the in-person documentation many metro-area cases need.
05Children and households
Deeper Checks Before a Partner Spends Time With Your Children
Parents carry more risk. Before a new partner babysits or moves in, the $300 deep-dive check looks closely at protection orders, child-related charges, earlier family court cases and offender status in every state tied to the person. The CBI's public website lists only certain registrants, such as sexually violent predators and people convicted of felony sex offenses, and omits misdemeanor and juvenile registrations, so we treat it as one source among several. Our missing child investigations team uses the same care.
Colorado courts allocate parental responsibilities based on the child's best interests, with paramount consideration given to the child's safety under C.R.S. § 14-10-124. A co-parent may raise a new partner's history in that setting, so learning it first protects you and your case. We report findings factually and, when something serious appears, recommend speaking with a family law attorney before making decisions. The Colorado custody investigation guide explains how this kind of evidence is generally used.
06Our boundaries
What Dating Background Checks in Colorado Will and Will Not Do
We rely on lawful sources only: court registers, the CBI search, published records, professional licensing boards and people who agree to talk. We do not log into accounts, guess passwords, pose as someone else to draw out information or put trackers on vehicles. Colorado is a one-party consent state, yet recording a conversation you are not part of can still be a class 2 misdemeanor under § 18-9-304. Anyone considering a do-it-yourself approach should read the Colorado recording law guide first.
We also refuse checks meant to find a person who ended contact with you. If someone has asked you to stop reaching out or holds a protection order against you, we decline the work. Intake questions are written to catch that, and Delator leadership reviews any request that seems unclear. Because Colorado no longer licenses private investigators at the state level, vetting falls to you, and the Colorado guide to vetting an investigator explains why careful firms screen their own clients.
- Public and lawfully obtained sources only
- No account access, pretexting or trackers
- No locates for people avoiding contact
- Leadership review of unclear requests
07Distance and geography
Relationships Split by the Divide and the Western Slope
A partner who lives on the other side of the Continental Divide can be easy to see only on weekends. Grand Junction, Durango and the resort valleys sit several hours from Denver, and from September through May the I-70 corridor runs under traction and chain law restrictions that cancel plenty of planned visits. Long gaps leave room for a second household or a story that never gets tested. Our Grand Junction investigators and our Durango team handle verification on the Western Slope.
Relationships also cross state lines. Northern Colorado residents date people in Cheyenne, Four Corners couples split time between Durango and Farmington, and many Front Range transplants keep ties to their home states. We search each state where the person has lived under one written scope. When a partner claims a job or residence elsewhere, our out-of-state surveillance team can confirm it in person, and multistate dating background checks in Colorado are billed at the same published rates.

How it works
How a dating background check works
- 01
Private intake
You share what you know and what worries you. We ask questions to make sure the request is protective, then confirm the check level and price in writing.
- 02
Identity first
We establish that the person exists and that the name, age and location match. If the identity collapses at this stage, we tell you immediately before more money is spent.
- 03
Records and registries
We review Colorado court registers, the CBI search, other states' records and offender listings, linking every entry to two identifiers before it reaches your report.
- 04
Clear written report
You receive a plain report of what we found and what we did not find, with practical next steps such as consulting an attorney or ending contact safely.

Statewide coverage
Dating checks across Colorado
We research partners anywhere in Colorado and in the states that border it. Much of the work comes from the Denver metro and from fast-growing suburbs such as Castle Rock and Parker, while college towns like Boulder, Fort Collins and Golden generate their own requests. Southern Colorado checks reach into New Mexico, and northern ones into Wyoming. Field confirmation is scheduled around mountain weather. For more on statewide coverage, visit the Colorado investigations home page or our neighboring Wyoming investigations overview.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does the person find out that I asked for a check?
No. A records-based check involves no contact with the person, their relatives or their employer. We work from court registers, the CBI search and published information. If you later want interviews or in-person confirmation, we explain what becomes visible and get your approval in writing first. Reports go only to you, and your name is never shared with the subject.
Is it legal to run a background check on someone I am dating in Colorado?
Generally yes, when the check relies on public records and lawful sources and is not used to harass or find someone avoiding you. The federal consumer reporting rules that govern hiring and renting do not usually apply to a personal safety check, but limits on recording, tracking and account access still do. The Colorado guide to what investigators may legally do covers those limits.
Can you tell me if someone is still married?
We can search for dissolution and legal separation cases in Colorado court registers and look for public signs that a person shares a home or finances with a spouse. A marriage entered in another state may not appear in Colorado at all. When records do not settle the question, lawful observation can confirm living arrangements, which our married infidelity investigations handle.
What if the person has no record anywhere?
Sometimes that is reassuring, and sometimes it means the identity was assembled recently or made up. Real adults usually leave traces such as address history, professional licenses, court filings or employment records, which our people-location research is built to find. If someone claims to be in their forties yet barely exists in public records, we say so clearly. The report separates a clean history from an identity we could not confirm.
I already sent money. What should I do first?
Stop sending funds, save every message and receipt, and call your bank or payment provider right away. If you used a crypto kiosk, report the fraud to the operator and to police promptly, because Colorado's refund window for a new customer's first transaction is 60 days. Report the scheme to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center as well. Recovery is never certain, and anyone promising guaranteed recovery for an upfront fee may be a second scam.
Does Delator hold a Colorado private investigator license?
Nobody in Colorado can hold a state investigator license right now, because the former program ended after the governor vetoed the 2020 continuation bill, so there is no state credential to hold. Delator Group is a licensed Tennessee private investigation firm, insured, and it holds itself to Tennessee's licensing standard in every state it works in, confirming any local business license requirements before field work.
Can you check someone who lives in Wyoming or New Mexico?
Yes. Many Colorado relationships cross state lines, especially between Fort Collins and Cheyenne or between the Four Corners towns. We search the courts and offender listings of each state where the person has lived. All of it falls under the same written scope and pricing you approved at the start, and nothing is added without your agreement.
How quickly will I get results?
A basic check usually moves quickly once identity is confirmed, but we do not promise results in hours. Timing depends on how many states are involved and whether a court file must be requested to confirm an entry, since the online registers show case listings rather than documents. If a meeting is coming up soon, tell us at intake and we will handle the identity and offender pieces first.
What happens if the report shows something frightening?
We call you, walk through what the record shows and what it cannot prove, and lay out practical options. That might mean talking with a family law attorney, ending contact in a public place or asking a court for a protection order. If harassment begins after a breakup, our online harassment investigations preserve evidence for a petition.
Will you research someone who blocked me?
No. If a person cut off contact, asked you to stop reaching out or obtained a protection order, we will not research or locate them. A dating check exists to protect the person asking, not to reopen contact that someone ended. Our intake screening is built around that rule, and requests that look like an attempt to find someone who does not want to be found are declined.
