Quick answer

What is a sales prospect intelligence report?

A sales prospect intelligence report is a pre-call briefing on a specific buyer, compiled only from public and lawfully available sources. It covers the prospect's professional background, interests, hobbies, favorite teams, causes they support and topics to avoid, so a sales rep can build rapport and run a better meeting. It is not an FCRA background check and never includes private identifiers such as home addresses or Social Security numbers.

01The Problem

Rapport wins high-ticket deals, and research builds rapport

On a five- or six-figure deal, the first ten minutes of the call decide a lot. A rep who knows that the buyer coaches youth baseball, just spoke on a panel about supply-chain resilience and grew up rooting for the Titans has an easy, genuine way into the conversation. A rep who walks in cold spends that time guessing.

Most reps know this, and most try to do the research themselves. It usually ends with a skim of a LinkedIn profile ten minutes before the meeting, because doing it properly takes hours they do not have. Delator does that research for you, the way investigators do it: methodically, across many public sources, with every finding checked before it reaches you.

  • Better openers and genuine common ground
  • Fewer awkward missteps on sensitive subjects
  • Talking points matched to what the buyer cares about
  • Hours of prep time handed back to selling

02The Briefing

What goes into a prospect briefing

Every briefing is built around one question: what would help you run a better, more respectful conversation with this person? We look for the things a prospect has chosen to share publicly about their working life and interests, then organize them so you can read the briefing in five minutes before you dial.

Depending on the tier, that includes their career path and current role, what they post and speak about, their hobbies and teams, the community causes they support, how they tend to communicate, and recent news about their company. Each item is tied back to the public source it came from, so you know exactly what you are working with.

  • Professional snapshot: role, tenure, career path, education as publicly listed
  • Interests, hobbies, favorite sports teams and public causes
  • Family context only at the level the prospect shares publicly
  • Conversation openers and topics to steer clear of
  • Source notes for every finding

03Sourcing

Public sources, professional method

We work from public social media profiles, professional networking sites, company websites, press releases, published interviews, podcasts, conference agendas, nonprofit and association pages, news coverage and public business filings. Our investigators also use commercial research tools to confirm that the profiles we review belong to your prospect and not to someone with the same name.

What we do not use matters just as much. We do not pull consumer reports, credit data or motor vehicle records for sales research. We do not create fake profiles, send friend requests, pose as someone else, or contact the prospect, their family or their coworkers. If information is not publicly and lawfully available, it does not go in the briefing.

  • Public social media and professional profiles
  • Published interviews, talks, articles and podcasts
  • Company news, filings and press coverage
  • Identity confirmation so you get the right person

04Firm Policy

What we will never provide, even if asked

This service exists to help you have a better business conversation, not to expose anyone's private life. Some information can surface during any research process. Delator's policy is that the following is never included in a sales briefing, never discussed with the client and never released under any circumstances, including when a client asks for it directly.

If you need information outside these limits for a legitimate legal matter, that is a different engagement with a different legal basis, and we will tell you so plainly. Briefings are for sales preparation only.

  • Social Security numbers, driver's license or other ID numbers
  • Home addresses, personal phone numbers or personal email addresses
  • Dates of birth, financial account or credit information
  • Health, medical or disability information
  • Criminal history or arrest records
  • Religion, political affiliation, sexual orientation or other protected characteristics
  • Names, schools or any identifying details of the prospect's children
  • Anything not publicly and lawfully available

05Judgment

How "topics to avoid" works

Sometimes the most valuable line in a briefing is a warning. If a prospect's company just announced layoffs, if they have publicly criticized a competitor you partner with, or if a subject is plainly a sore point in their public posts, we tell you to stay away from it.

We flag these as subjects to avoid without cataloguing private details. A briefing might say a topic is sensitive and should not be raised; it will not repeat personal hardship, health matters or family circumstances. The goal is to keep you respectful, not to arm you with someone's private life.

06Clients

Built for sales agencies and high-ticket reps

Our clients are sales and marketing agencies preparing reps for client calls, account executives selling enterprise software, financial and professional services, commercial real estate, medical devices, luxury goods and other high-value offers, and founders who personally run their biggest deals.

Agencies and sales teams can set up a standing intake so reps submit prospects as meetings are booked. We are headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, and we prepare briefings for sales teams across Middle Tennessee, the Southeast and the rest of the United States.

How it works

How ordering a briefing works

  1. 01

Choose a tier and complete intake

Pick Essential, Advanced or Comprehensive. Give us the prospect's name, company, title, any public profile link you have, your meeting date and what you are selling.

  2. 02

Certify business use and check out

You confirm the briefing is for legitimate sales preparation and will not be used for eligibility decisions, harassment or contact outside a business context. Then pay securely online.

  3. 03

    Investigators research and verify

A Delator investigator works through public sources, confirms identity, and filters out everything our policy excludes before anything is written up.

  4. 04

    Receive your briefing

You receive a clear, sourced briefing by email ahead of your meeting date. Comprehensive orders include a 30-minute debrief call with the analyst.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this a background check?

Not in the legal sense. A sales prospect briefing is public-source research to help you prepare for a business conversation. It is not a consumer report under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, it does not use credit or motor vehicle data, and it cannot be used for employment, credit, insurance, housing or any other eligibility decision. Some people search for it as a sales background check, which is why we explain the difference.

Is sales prospect research legal and ethical?

Yes, when it is done the way we do it. We review information the prospect or their company has made public, confirm identity, and exclude private and sensitive data entirely. We never pretext, create fake profiles, hack, scrape private accounts or contact the prospect. Every client certifies that the briefing is for legitimate sales preparation.

What will you never include in a briefing?

Social Security numbers, driver's license and other ID numbers, home addresses, personal phone numbers and emails, dates of birth, financial or credit information, health or medical information, criminal history, protected characteristics such as religion, politics or sexual orientation, and identifying details about the prospect's children. We will not provide these even if a client asks directly.

How much does a prospect briefing cost?

Essential is $300, Advanced is $700 and Comprehensive is $1,200, each for one primary prospect. Comprehensive adds up to three more stakeholders at the same account. Agencies and teams ordering regularly can contact us about volume pricing.

How fast will I get my briefing?

Tell us your meeting date at intake. Delator reviews every order before work begins and confirms the delivery time by email. If your meeting is very soon, call (629) 310-8667 before ordering so we can tell you what is realistic.

What do you need from me to start?

The prospect's full name, their company and title, and any public profile link you already have, such as a LinkedIn URL. Your meeting date and a short note on what you are selling help us focus the briefing on what matters for the call.

Will the prospect know they were researched?

No. We review public sources only and never contact the prospect, their company, coworkers or family. Nothing about your order is shared with the prospect.

Can a sales agency order briefings for its clients' reps?

Yes. Many of our clients are sales and marketing agencies. We can set up a standing intake so reps submit prospects as meetings are booked, with consistent briefings across the whole team. Contact us to set it up.

Do you research prospects outside Tennessee?

Yes. Delator is based in Nashville, but briefings are built from public sources, so we prepare them for prospects and sales teams anywhere in the United States.
